Seems like might be a comfy shoe and could probably be used for hiking since the soles were pretty textured. However it's definitely a breathable material and may not be very weatherproof. I returned them because they are significantly less wide than a normal shoe making you have to go up a size or at least a half a size. For the money, I didn't think it was worth messing around with since the outer part looks like it might be an issue for the kind of places that I hike anyway. Otherwise it would make a good comfy sneaker. But there are plenty of good comfy sneakers out there that aren't this expensive, so I can't really speak to whether the value is worth it. If you're hiking and hot areas with no water and you get a size bigger than you normally would, this could be a good fit for the short-term. The softness and flexibility of the outer material - which is what makes it comfortable, is also what makes the probability of long term use too low for the price point.

switched from my old -now 3,5 years old Adidas Terrex Swift R2 which has started to torn apart. Columbia is much more comfortable, keeps warm and watertight + looks quite good. 45 worked very well whereas my adidas was 46 1/3.

These walking shoes are the best I have ever purchased. They are light, extremely comfortable and provide a great grip. I recently took these on a weekend to Krakow, and despite heavy snow and ice, these were waterproof and didn't slip at all on the ice.

I do a lot of hiking and walking - average 270 km per month - and I do it year round, so I’m tough on shoes. These are my 4th pair of this model and I’m probably going to buy another when these wear out. Comfortable, light but sturdy and very waterproof.

I've tried various Columbia products over the years. The shoes don't always fit me well and sometimes I find them a little cheaper in quality then the Columbia/Montrail products. I have been hiking in la sportiva trail shoes recently,which I consider a higher-end shoe. However I was getting blisters on my pinky toe due to the narrow shoe box. I found these on sale and I must admit I was a sucker for the color as they came in orange. After hiking for the last week in death valley I am officially a fan. Although you can find more comfortable shoes, the toe box worked well for me. My feet were very secure and this is a stable shoe with great grip. I was able to hike course Corkscrew peak which is 3,000 ft elevation and subsequent descent over the course of 7 mi round trip. With the aggressive uphill and downhill I didn't have any problems with my toes being jammed or any blisters. My feet did great in these. I was also able to do a lot of scrambling in Mosaic canyon and the grip was tremendous on these shoes.The reason I only gave this review four stars is because you can find more comfortable shoes. I was very happy to be hiking these all day. However if you want shoes for walking around town or just general comfort I think you could do better with shoes that have more cushion. However in terms of the ability to give good support with outstanding grip and have no blisters with aggressive hiking I'm officially a fan. I found the shoe sizing true to advertising. I wear an 11 and the 11 off the shelf was a perfect fit
