I wanted to use this with a Jelly roll. You can't. YOu have to start with 3.5-inch square. I watched the 10-inch Youtube videos with the "Round two," etc marked. The rounds are not made on the 12-inch, so I guess have to guess. I can't tell where I should put the center. Wasted a Jelly roll on this. The instructions are HORRIBLE! The 6-inch and 12-inch instructions are together (What brain came up with that? - not a quilter!). WAY over priced. Great concept, lousy instructions. If you have the experience, you can make it work. I have made a dozen log cabins. I had to throw out my first two blocks using this ruler.

It uses 2 1/2 inch jelly rolls, but requires they have a straight edge on one side, most jelly rolls have “pinked” edges. Quite a bit of fabric waste, probably better to cut your own strips, it does work as stated, but practice a couple times first.

Happy with the acrylic ruler product, but shocked at how it arrived. It was just in a grey envelope - no padding. Cannot believe it did not crack or chip!!

I decided that making scrappy log cabin blocks was the best way to reduce some of my stash and scrap fabrics. I had looked at the cut to measure strip rulers from Marti Michell and Quilt in a Day and decided to go with the Creative Grids square ruler. Although the videos from Creative Grids show just grabbing a piece of fabric with a straight cut side I have found that the best way for me to utilize the ruler is to cut my strips to size, sew a round and trim using the ruler. The most difficult step for me is choosing the fabrics so to actually decide on fabrics and cut out strips for several blocks at a time makes the sewing go very quick and with the Creative Grids ruler the block is a perfect 12 1/2" every time. I have made over 40 blocks so far and am very happy I choose to purchase this.
