This file seems well made and will get the job done. I bought it to file the area of a brake caliper mounting bracket where the brake pad abutment clips go and it was too wide for that purpose if used on cars and SUVs.

You never realize just how dull your knife is until you replace it with a freshly sharpened knife. Files are the same. I had been using my old file to sharpen my mower blades when I decided that I needed a new one. Holy cow!! - I did not realize just how dull/inferior my old file was until I used this one. I was so impressed, I purchased a second one - just in case I misplace this one. You will not be disappointed.

Both the bastard cut and the finer cut sides cut cleanly and are easy to clean. I use it mainly for shaping bone nuts and saddles, which is death to many a file. It responds well to differences in pressure. In 10+ years, once it gets relegated to my box of tools for quick and dirty, I will buy another.

i bought this to sharpen broadheads and mower blades, i ended up using for the first time the other day to reshape a beat up bolt end that i could not get a nut to go on. a file is a good thing to have.

...not coarse enough for establishing the first edge on my new axe bits. It's good for finer filing, as it is an 8" and so I bought the 10" Simonds Handy File. It removes material faster. Both have two different cuts, one coarser bastard cut and one finer single cut. Buy according to your needs or buy both, as they're a good value of high quality tools. FYI, the shaped handle has very sharp edges that I wrapped to protect my hand.

Does the one thing this tool was made for: file, and file well. Nice and sharp; made quick work on a couple gardening tools (shovel & hula-hoe) that became dinged and dulled over time. (Plan on using it on a law-mower blade next) I wished that file-card didn't cost so much (they cost as least as much as this file itself!) so I can easily keep this file cleared of filings/debris. Like that it has a handle that's part of the file itself, so I don't have to buy handles. At ~$8, this is an essential tool for every home toolkit.

I use this file to sharpen garden shears and hatchets. Works well. If you do it often, maybe you'd want something nicer, but occasional use it's been great.

While I have many files from which to choose, I find that this the one that I most often choose. I especially like the fact that it offers to two grits in a single tool. It is a very good file, and the handle is reasonably comfortable to use.

Lasted 3 months sharpening axes. Wore out trying to profile a Mexican axe. All shiny now and skates over the axe. Switched to Bahco
