Your cart is empty. Start with a 5/16" bit that matches the smaller barrel.
Drill all the way through both blocks. For the wider barrel, use a wider bit with a flag on it that advises how far to drill.
This fastener can be taken apart easily with an allen wrench.

they are about 4mm too long to join too bookcases. Also , the M6 really is large also. They are advertised as billy suitable - but really are not. Nice bolts , just not for what they are advertised

Just did a Billy bookcase hack by attaching three bookcases together. These 35 mm bolts will do the job but they bottom out before applying much compression to the joining walls of the bookcases. I can spin the bolt head with my finger after they bottom out.Ikea stuff can be a little rickety so you really need some decent bolt compression to fully stabilize the structure when you attach bookcases.The 30 mm bolts are the ones to buy. They will join just fine and will leave some additional thread so you can tighten things up very nicely. Mind you, you don't want to go crazy with compression but you do want to get the bookcases bolted firmly together and the 30 mm bolts do that very nicely.BTW the hack is great, watch YouTube for additional tricks to improve sturdiness of the assembly.

This worked perfectly with the Billy bookshelves my husband bought from IKEA. Just know you will need a drill bit to install these using the shelving holes as guides.

I watched a YouTube video on how to securely connect my series of Ikea Billy bookcases and it said these barrel fasteners were available on Amazon. I made sure I had all the length and diameter specs before I searched and the first thing that popped up was this product. Can't be simpler than that. These are low profile, strong and fit the cases perfectly and securely.
