Like all chisels these were in need of a honing out of the box. They were sharp enough to use out of the box, but a good honing would help them anyway. They were square and the handles were well made. I would say they are a good starter set. Of course I have to add a disclaimer, the next set could be a wreck looking to happen. Quality control where these are made seems to very a lot. Having purchased cheap tool sets from them, wrench sets for example, maybe one or two would bend or break right away and the rest would be good and still using them. Caveat emptor.

I needed to replace my old neglected chisels and for $35 for the set they fit my needs perfectly. These are not $500 chisels and I did not expect them to be. Many on this reviews section seem to accept that they are good to go out of the box. But a truth is that the bigger value is earned by proper sharpening. A few hours devoted to proper lapping and sharpening and I would stand these against any that I have seen at this or even a multiple of the price. If you are not willing to do that then I recommend you grab the $9 set at you friendly discount home supply store.

Wow these arrived very sharp! They look and feel very well made. I used this chisel set to help my friend install a deadbolt lock on his fence gate. The chisels cut through the wood effortlessly & accurately. They come with a very nice wooden case that includes two sharpening stones! One stone is a courser grit for fixing very small chips or burrs & flat spots on the chisel's cutting edge & the other is a finer grit stone for keeping the undamaged/properly shaped edge razor sharp.*Tip* : Use A Wooden Mallet With These Chisels!- a metal hammer will damage these chisels. The chisels have wooden handles that will mushroom out or crack sooner or later if you hit them with metal so don't do it. There are good chisel instructional videos on YouTube that cover using them to sharpening them. So far I am very impressed with this chisel set.

These have worked great for me. They're not perfect, you definitely need to flatten the back, which takes more effort than you might be expecting if you've never flattened chisels before. Get a good set of diamond stones that includes a very course/extra course stone to speed up the process. Once you've got everything flattened and sharpened these work great.

these are great for the price, I just can't justify high dollar chisels for weekend warrior use, but after some honing work, are nice and sharp and work well, time will tell if they can hold an edge. They are not ready to go right out of the box, but even high dollar ones aren't either
