The top of the "U" was built to occupy the same space as the tailpipe and left top mount bracket hit the bumper molding. I had to 1) take off 1/2" off the top inside corner of the "U" where there was no structural significance, 2) bend the muffler mounts on frame and exhaust -- putting my muffler closer to the body, and 3) add 3/8 inch steel spacers between the frame and hitch. There is still only 3/8" of clearance, so it may start hitting as the rubber mounts wear, which will require more modification. There is plenty of room under the car, the "U" is just not in the right spot.

This butted up against against the muffler and made really loud rattling noises despite the hitch being securely bolted in. It worked and hauled a moped, but I took it off due to the non-stop noise.

Received item earlier than expected. Was relatively easy to install with an extra set of hands to help hold it up while bolting to chassis. Very well made. Have driven roughly 1500 miles so far with a triple bike rack loaded on my 2012 Chevy Sonic. Looking forward to seeing how it (and my car) do towing my small lite pop up this summer. All in all great item at a good price.

I was able to install this by myself on my 13 Sonic in about 30 minutes. The hardest part was holding the hitch in place with one hand and trying to thread the nut on the bolt with the other hand. I think I could of shaved 10 minutes off my time if I had an extra set of hands there to help. All in all a fairly simple installation after I watched a youtube video!! Lol. The paper directions were slightly confusing.

the other brand available for my car required lowering the exhaust system. This one was so much easier to install. I did have to pry one side outward with a sturdy screwdriver to get the holes to align but it was still a one-person installation.

Good hitch and easy install. Took about 40 minutes to install. Good quality, but I'm just using for bike rack. Just a note: The Kuat 2 Bike Beta Rack is not a direct fit for use with this hitch. The hitch pin was off center by more than 1/8" and the rack required drilling of the hitch pin holes.
