  • TOOL SPECIFICATIONS: This Damaged Bolt and Stud Extractor Tool has a 3/8-inch drive and works with manual or pneumatic impact wrenches and ratchets to quickly and easily extract damaged bolts and studs for 1/4 - 1/2-inch (6 - 12 mm) studs
  • STURDY & HEAVY DUTY: This 3/8-inch Damaged Bolt Extractor is heat-treated alloy steel that is extremely strong and chrome-plated so that it won't be damaged by high-intensity work, as well as lubricating the internal rotating threads to provide better protection against rust and wear

Once the jaws are firmly clamped on the broken bolt or stud, continue to turn the stud counterclockwise until it is removed

This bolt and stud extractor is well made with heavy steel materials. The teeth inside bite down very well ...but that is assuming the bolt head is sticking up enough to grab onto it. There is approximately 1/4" of space between the tool end facing and the inner teeth that grab, so for bolts that have thinner heads or are fully flush -and they usually are when stuck- this will not work. It would be great if the teeth could come out to the face of the tool end or just beyond. If the bit, bolt, or stud has enough height or is broken off and sticking out, this tool can grab on tight and easily extract, as long as it's in the specified 1/4-1/2" range. In specific situations, this extractor could very quickly save the day, especially if a larger drill bit is snapped off in dense material but it is not applicable to bolt heads that are lower profile and secured /rusted flush.

This extractor tool is a modified metal chuck meant to grip studs instead of drill bits. It worked nicely for studs but I don't think it'd work as well for stripped bolts. This is because first of all, the diameter of the extractor tool is only 3/8''. Accounting for the gripper teeth in it, you're looking at an even smaller opening capable of gripping the tiniest bolts. Secondly, the gripper needs some length of material to grip onto in order to work. Anyone who's ever used a drill chuck knows that they'd need at least an inch or more just to grip it down securely. This unfortunately won't be the case as most bolts will be fasted down to its head, stripped or not. 4 out of 5 stars, it's a stud extractor.

It was done in less than a couple minutes. It was money well spent compared to drilling and it was easy to remove. I put it on, hit it with heat and impact and it came right out. Worth recommending.

At first I didn't hold out much hope for it because I have an off-road vehicle with stuck exhaust studs that are a huge pain in the ass and I wanted to spend some money to try it out. Much to my surprise it worked great and being able to remove these studs in a pinch without having to take more drastic measures was money well spent. As a mechanic with over thirty years of experience, I highly recommend it for home or occasional use.Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
