I just bought a brand new bbq and was concerned about possible theft. It was a relatively expensive purchase and I wanted to secure it with a cable lock of some kind. This was the first cable lock I felt comfortable using seeing as it has a built-in alarm. The installation was easy, although I was sceptical about initially opening the lock body based on a few reviews, saying it was hard to open. I pushed it firmly and was able to open the unit no problem. It also has a vibration sensor that will sound the alarm if anybody tampers with with it. I tested it and the alarm is LOUD.It’s now set up with my barbeque and I feel a lot more at ease. My one complaint is the 3 foot cable felt much smaller than I anticipated (I guess that’s kind of my fault). I have to roll the BBQ close to the metal railing I am using to secure the cable, but it’s not the big deal. I can buy the 15’ cable separately and install it with my current lock body, but for now I’ll just keep it as is.

I purchased the 3ft cable to lock up my bike. I usually have to ride it into some sketchier parts of town for my job, which involves me needing to leave it unattended for a few minutes at a time. Most everyone who wants to steal a bike knows how to work their way around the beefiest locks these days, but Decibel's a new face on the block and no one's really figured out how to bypass it yet. Just the uncertainty of how to approach it is usually enough to set people off from trying. The vibration sensor is a great feature, no one can even try to pick or break off the lock without it alarming at the slightest touch.

This unfortunately came without the keys that are needed to unlock it, so it's completely useless to me. Quality Control should catch things like this, so it's a one star product in my opinion.

This review comes after buying two more of these on amazon. The security cable is robust but slim to allow it to pass through small openings/holes to properly secure your gear. The fact that an alarm is embedded in this security cable creates a greater deterrent for theft as compared to a conventional cable. This is a must have for the outdoor lover, construction worker, musician or anyone else with equipment they want to properly and easily secure at home or on the go.

I like the idea of this Decibel lock but I don't think it's secure on its own. The design does incorporate several mechanisms to prevent triggering the alarm such as the security screw that if removed will set off the alarm, cutting the cable will set off the alarm, enabling the vibration switch then shaking the unit will set off the alarm. However, if this is your only security device for securing something valuable then don't be alarmed if someone with wire cutters or heavy scissors snips the cable and runs off with your goods. The security cable itself is sheathed with a thick rubber-like insulation that hides whatever is inside but looking at the thickness of the insulation and the overall diameter of the cable, it doesn't leave a lot for a barrier that will stop anyone less than honest. There are still some great uses for this lock if you're realistic about the limitations, such as:* Combining it with another lock in a high traffic area to draw attention to or deter people from taking your stuff, so maybe they'll steal someone else's stuff* Locking up whatever if you'll be standing nearby but don't want to baby your goods* Securing your food or gear from curious animals such as bears when campingThe alarm is loud at close range, but at only 100 decibels, it isn't going to draw much attention unless you are relatively close to it or it's in an enclosed area where sound can bounce off structures. At first I thought it would've been better to have a rechargeable battery, but on second thought, LiPo and LiON batteries aren't ideal if they're left under the sun or exposed to high temperatures, so maybe the most stable option is non-rechargeable alkaline or lithium

This is a light duty cable lock with a loud alarm. The primary security feature of this lock is its loud alarm warning. The cable itself is thin, approximately 1/4" thick including the plastic outer coating. Inside is the electronic cable and a little bit of security wire. I would not count on the cable strength to stop or even slow down any serious thief. However, any tampering with the lock or cable does set off the alarm which hopefully will deter theft. The alarm box is plastic and is 3" wide, 5" long and 1 1/2" thick. It can be permanently mounted using screws or zip ties but mounting is not needed for functionality. The case has an IP54 rating which allows it to be splashed with water but is not designed to be in a wet environment. It is a keyed lock and includes 2 keys. The alarm is battery operated and requires one 9 volt battery which should last for months. The instruction sheet is functional and there is also an online installation video. This lock is available in several lengths including the 6 foot length that I needed.I have faith that this lightweight alarm will deter "walk off" theft but I don't expect it to stop a serious threat.

A little difficult for a techy kindergartener with arthritic hands, but doable. My favorite features: the loudness it produces, and the length of the cable.

Once you have had any property stolen, your mindset changes to want to be more proactive. With that said, I've been there, had that happen to me.My position now is to use multiple locking/security systems to deter theft.Visual deterrents work fine, but also having a visual deterrent increases chances a thief will move on to easier targets.I currently use a Kryptonite U-Lock and a XENA caliper lock which has a 110db motion sensor alarm. The XENA works fine but is tucked away near the hub of the wheel where it's not very noticeable. This DECIBEL cable lock with audible alarm is perfect as it adds both a visual deterrent and an audio deterrent. It compliments my other locking/security system quite well. Some may think all this is overkill. But Like I said, once you have a 5k e-bike stolen you'll invest more in security. In the box you get the locking unit with the alarm built inside, a 3-foot poly coated cable, (longer lengths can be ordered), 2 keys, owner's manual and instructions, nice welcome card. from Decibel. The entire unit is made out of ABS plastic. It's very solidly built with nothing rattling inside of it.Some installation is needed, as you'll need to remove the back of the unit and attach the cable with its electrical contacts to the main alarm. One 1 screw hols the backplate on.There is no rubber or silicone seal at all, so only time will tell how well the internals will survive over rain/snow and other weather conditions. You will also have to supply your own 9 volt battery.Under the battery cover is an on/off for the motion sensor (still testing to see how sensitive this sensor is).The back of the plate also offers different solutions for permanent wall or pole mounting. The cable itself measures in at 6mm diameter. It's not very thick, I personally wish it was.The alarm box itself is 11.5cm x 7cm x 4cm. It's about the size of a medium sized kids juice box.The total weight with cable came in at 321 grams.Overall, it's a very good theft deterrent that offers both visual and audio security. But as I mentioned earlier, best if used with another theft deterrent system.

This antitheft device included a 6 foot long cable. It required minor assembly where you have to remove a set screw to take the cover off and insert the cable so that the contacts engage with the device. Then you have to add a 9 V battery.VERY IMPORTANT: BE CERTAIN THE LOCK IS IN THE OFF POSITION BEFORE ASSEMBLY. If the lock is in the ON position, the alarm will sound as you are assembling it, and it is extremely loud.

Got this lock to secure my bike. Although the cable is somewhat thin and could probably be disabled, the alarm is quite jolting and will hopefully deter a thief. Alarm takes a 9 volt battery and was easy to set up. Appears to be well made. Good buy for the money.

I would use this for locking my bike or electric kick scooter for short periods of time in a public area. The box portion of this unit is designed to be portable or mounted more permanently to a solid object like a pole or a wall. With a generous fifteen-foot cord, I can lock up my items almost anywhere. The loudness of the alarm might be a big enough deterrent to keep thieves away. It does take a little bit of time to assemble this unit before first using it. A nine volt battery (not included) is needed to power the unit and I won't have to change it, but maybe once a year. This is the first lock of this type I have ever seen that gets triggered by either the unit being disturbed, attempting to cut the cable or trying to remove the assembly screw. At 100 Db, this is a very loud alarm and should be a deterrent to most thieves.Hopefully, I'll never have to hear this alarm from a distance.

I ordered the six foot cable to secure propane tanks and a generator. The cable is the standard size of most cable locks, like what you would have for a bike. The lock box is well made, it is sturdy. To break it would take some work. The box takes a nine volt battery and can be mounted if desired. When tampered with, the box emits a loud shrieking sound that will make your ears hurt. Even with a loud generator running you won't miss the alarm. I used it to secure four propane tanks attaching them to the generator. The box is a great deterrent to theft.
