For the outer coat it works okay as long as you don't press to hard. We have German Shepherds with two coats. So this brush doesn't work good for them.

I ordered this dog grooming Rake for my German Shepherds. It is similar to the defirminator rake used by my groomer. It removes hair from dogs with excess shedding. Works well

This worked really well on my golden retriever. The teeth on the comb grab the hair and hold loose hair as it’s removed. I removed a lot of hair with just a few passes over my shedding dog’s coat. The wooden handle in comfortable to hold and preferable to me over plastic.
