Installed on LEXUS GX470 to replace the OEM unit with a much larger cooler. Fabrication of brackets was needed obviously however this was easily 3x larger than oem. I have noticed trans temps are down 15* in traffic. Will be testing soon while towing camping trailer.

Works great on my 2018 4Runner. Before tranny the temperature use to be in the 190-210 degrees and as high as 225 degrees! on a off road trip up a mountain. Super easy to install but I recommend upgrading the rubber hoes to 3/8" instead of using the included 5/16" rubber hoes that are too small for the factory steel lines. Now the temperature sits anywhere from 150-180 degrees. It paid for itself on the first offroad trip out. Worth every penny.

Got this for the transmission on my 2003 gmc 2500. It made a HUGE difference for me and I wish I had installed it sooner. Daily driving with out the trailer my transmission barely gets warm. With 15,000# behind it going up and down the hills we don’t get out of the normal range where the last cooler would let my transmission redline and overheat. It was packaged well and looks like it will hold up as long as the rest of the truck.

Have 2010 Chevy Avalanche. Bought a small camper and the first time out had tranny temp too high for comfort. Bought this cooler to reduce temp. Found good videos online on how to install. Had to take full bumper and grill off. Not a bad job at all. Installed where the video recommended. Next trip out reduced my highest temperature by 25 degF. Have to add about 1/2 quart of fluid. Super excited about product.

I installed this transmission cooler on a 2002 Chevy avalanche, the installation was easy and straight forward. I didn't use the ties that go through the ac condenser to hold the new cooler, instead I used .5x.5x 14 gage galvanized angle for brackets. I also didn't use the hose adapter that came in the kit instead I used Hayden Automotive 397 Transmission Line Fitting Kit. Remember to check your fluid level after installation reference your owners manual for proper procedure. I believe the cooler holds and additional 8oz of transmission fluid.

As other posters have noted, the 5/16" hose included with this cooler is borderline too small. Derale includes 5/16" trans hose, but it's a real chore to get it on the transmission cooler nipples. IMO, they should have included 3/8" host instead. It took a couple minutes to get the hoses on (even after lubricating the connections with trans fluid) and I ended up deciding that I wasn't comfortable with the stretched out rubber. I ended up going down to the local auto parts store and buying 5 feet of 3/8" trans hose and it worked perfectly with the included hose clamps. As for my specific application, I installed cooler on a 2008 Silverado 1500 and it seems to be working just fine. I couldn't end up bolting the cooler down due to being oversized for brackets in front of AC condenser. I ended up using 8 heavy duty zip ties and was able to secure it very well. If you installing on a GM product, you'll need a Hayden Coolers 397 transmission fitting to adapt to GMs fittings (the fitting included with the kit don't work) so you should budget another $7-9 for the fitting adapter and another $8-10 for new hoses.Would have been 5 stars if Derale included 3/8" hose which actually fit their own cooler and did require you to stretch out the included 5/16" hose.

Installed this Derale (part #13504) external trans cooler on my '01 Chevy truck and '01 Chevy Tahoe. It fit great with minimal modification. I've created a step-by-step video to show the install process that I used. Search YouTube for "Trans Cooler Install, '01 Chevy Truck 1500".This cooler has been working great for us and will make the 4l60e trans last much longer here in the southern US States. Where we live in Texas, it's common to see 4L60E transmissions go out by 100k miles because of the extreme heat we have. So if you live in a hot climate area and tow or drive you vehicle hard, a cooler like this is a must. It will save your trans and the headache of paying $1200 to have it rebuilt.

Well made and sturdy construction.Easy installation and comes with a length of hose but for most installs you will have to purchase additional hose. You should also check into buying the adapters required for connection to the output of the cooler section of your radiator and for the return line.I also added a Thermostatic Cooler Bypass to the setup so as to not over cool the transmission fluid and prevent the torque converter from using the lockup function.Overall I like the Cooler and think it will be very serviceable.
