I bought this to remove the anode rod from my water heater, so I could replace it. It fit in the narrow opening in the top of my water heater, to get to the head of the anode rod. It seems well constructed, and works fine with my Dewalt cordless impact gun (300 ft lbs). I needed all of that power to remove this rod.

Used this hooked up to a Dewalt 20v max impact driver to re/re propeller on a Mercruiser I/O.No sign of wear or tear on this socket. Works flawlessly. Highly recommend.

There's nothing the matter with this socket. This is the third socket I purchased in an attempt to get one that will fit onto a rheem hot water heater anode rod bolt so that I can replace it. I've tried one and one sixteenth, I've tried 26 mm and 27 mm, I've tried short sockets and deep sockets, nothing seems to grip the bolt of the anode rod. With my rheem water heater the bolt to loosen the anode rod is recessed about an inch. Some sockets the outer diameter is too large to slide into the recessed area. This dewal t definitely is great in two areas it's outer diameter is narrow enough to fit into the recessed area and it's an impact socket so it can withstand the stress if I have to use an impact wrench, and it's a deep socket although I don't think the anode rod is recessed so much that you even need a deep socket. The only thing that comes to my mind is the great lengths rheem will go to to force consumers to call a rheem repairman for something as simple as unscrewing and screwing in a new anode rod. There's no reason on Earth why they had to make the outer diameter of the recessed area so narrow that a standard socket everybody has in the garage wouldn't fit. There is no reason in the world why they even had to recess the anode rod bolt. Neither the cold water intake or the hot water out are recessed so why did they go to such lengths to make such a difficult recess on the anode rod?

This socket is awesome! It fits my 15/16 inch bolt like a glove! And its other end fits my 1/2 inch wrench perfectly! How does DeWalt even do it?! Also, it is like unbreakable! I dropped it one time, and almost had a heart attack...nothing could have survived that drop... But it just bounced right off the floor, and didn't break! It really is Impact Ready! What an amazing socket! It is one of the best sockets I've ever had!

I am sure that there are many non-professional mechanics out there that have to perform maintenance on their own equipment or pay exorbitant prices to let someone else do it. I prefer to do it myself if at all possible. But without the correct tools for the job, your wasting your time. Most stock socket sets end at 7/8ths or 15/16ths. As do most wrench sets end at an inch maximum. There was a bolt on my dad's tractor that requires a 1 1/8th socket to change the blades. I didn't have the correct socket, so I ended up using a large monkey wrench and a two foot pipe as a cheater bar. Needless to say, the awkward angle and trying to hold all that stuff steady made the job way harder than it should have been. Well, never again. I ordered this DEWALT socket because I own other tools made by DEWALT and they are great tools. The Dewalt tools lasted longer than any other. Great quality..(And still going after years of use)..there were other sockets that were cheaper, but the reviewers complained of thin walls and other short comings. So I spent the few dollars extra and I got this socket and let me tell you, it is thick walled and seriously heavy duty. It's made for the big tough jobs (hammer drill bits have got to be tough) without worrying about splitting the socket. I bought a twenty five inch, 1/2 inch drive cheater bar to go with it. Wow. From now on, THAT job will be a piece of cake! The right tool for the job. This beefy socket is built for the big heavy stuff. Very pleased. Don't waste your money on some chromium vanadium BS... JUST STATING THE FACTS.
