Moisture(%)=(Loss in weight/Oven-dry weight)x100
For example: if 100 grams of moist soil when dried loses 20 grams of water, the 80 grams of dry matter are used as a basis for the percentage calculation. 20/80 x 100 = 25%

I have no idea why they choose black on yello6. It is much harder to read than black on gray LCD display in sunlight.I found this helpful in the orchard but you really have to sample a few locations around a single tree. One single reading would not be helpful unless you have a vee small potted plant.Comes with a reusable cylinder which I don't love. Would have preferred a zip close nylon bag or shell.

Though it works well, I had to return it as It does disturb the soil and roots with its 4 prongs.Don’t know why they do not advertise this on the site.If you looking to use outside or on very large pots this thing is awesome very accurate.

Instructions very unclear. After using it for less than 2 weeks, it stopped working. Maybe it was batteries but if that is how long they last I don't want it. Could never figure out how the hold button worked so had to bend down to ground to see reading - not easy to use. Returned it. Should have an easy was to have the reading stay so you can pull it out of the ground and read it.

Bought this to monitor the moisture levels in my container tomatoes. Checked shortly after two days of steady rain and showed excessive moisture. Checked again two days later and the moisture level readings have dropped. Apparently it works.

You need to bring a stiff brush to clean the dirt out of the 4 prongs after use.
