Works fine. The volume is in steps so it’s either too loud or too quiet.

My use is to convert optical audiomoutnfrom my tv to my vintage 70s receiver (Pioneer SX-626 to be exact!) -- excellent all around and love added remote control functionality to my Pioneer.Only improvement would be to decrease the increments of volume between "clicks" (levels) as they're a bit imprecise, but not enough of a problem to undercut the price, quality, and durability of these units.Would recommend! (I have purchased 2 and they have lasted years already)

Bought this to add volume control to a tube amp. Optical from TV to this, then RCA to tube amp. Works as intended but a few issues. One - lights are always on. I fixed with some electrical tape but this device has to be visible to use the remote which is annoying there are multiple LED lights that are always on.Other small issue is the volume adjustments are pretty drastic. Going from volume all the way off to one click makes it significantly louder - not crazy but annoying if I want to use a low volume to not bother anyone else.Overall it works, just know it's not perfect.

I have a Bose Cinemate powered speaker that has been out for repair for over six weeks with no return date. Not wanting to replace the Bose equipment I purchased this device, plugged it into the optical feed that connected to the Bose as inout and a standard Audio M-M cable connected the output to a powered speaker. The sound quality is excellent. The volume seems to step through different levels but by adjusting the speaker volume I only control volume with the remote. This was an easy and inexpensive fix but for anyone who simply wants an external speaker instead of the flat screen speaker this is a good solution. Powered bluetooth speakers are available and all have an AUX input for an audio cable, at varying price levels and this is an easy and potentially inexpensive solution. The manufacturer did not provide a code that I could have incorporated into the TV remote so I need to use two remotes; Sound and Everything else on the TV

Very compact, easy to set up. The sound quality is excellent. The remote is compact and has only the necessary buttons. The output is not as strong as most remotes, however, the range is very good as long as the sensor is pointed directly at the remote (or visa versa). The reception angle is very narrow. All in all, a quality product for the price. Using the S/PDIF output from a TCL TV as input, and the output of this device plugged into a small amplifier and hooked up to a pair of Bose 301 Series II bookshelf speakers. Sounds great!

For the money it can't be beat! Everything works "as advertised". Sound quality is excellent! The volume control was a "must have" for me, and it does work; however, the "precision" between volume "steps" is greater than 1db, so it's almost impossible to set the volume to a desired level; it is invariably too loud or not loud enough. This can be compensated with the amplifier to which it's connected, but that's a pain when the amp has all manual controls. (If your amp has a remote - mine does not; circa 1979 -, then this is a minor issue.) That said, it works well and provides a VERY cost-effective link to my vintage audio gear. Definitely worth the money!

Because of my open floor plan house, we use small and larger speakers wired to the audio output of the TV. Issue was the TV doesn’t control the volume output of the audio. The amplified speakers i use have volume control, but getting up to adjust them is a pain.So I found this great product. Here is what I found.I used the TV digital output, to the units digital input. Not the audio output i was using to operate my speakers. Also it has a single RCA input jack, but Im not sure if it accepts mono audio.I wired a two jack splitter to the 3.5 MM stereo output. They went to my two speakers. I use one speaker at a time, but i did try it operating the two at one time. No issues.Sound quality from the speakers was excellent. Better than the TV audio output, i was using,The remote worked well. Volume, mute, on, off, select input.Turning off or muting and then turning on the volume maintained the previous setting. The only thing that could be an issue for some is the level of the audio output. It’s no where near the level of the TV audio level. Not an issue for me as i am using it with amplified speakers. I just adjust them to be at the maximum volume i want. For me it’s just what i was looking for.

Not much difference in volume control from lowest to highest setting. Remote needs to be pointed directly at unit and in range or it is useless. This was hooked to a mini receiver that had no remote. The volume was fixed on the receiver to allow remote to control for this unit to control overall output volume. Almost no difference from lowest level to highest level. This unit is not an amp (I knew that already and read only one review with my same complaint) and with almost no change in volume control it was useless for me to use it and I returned.

I spent a long time looking for a way to connect my TV to powered studio monitors (speakers) while giving me a remote control for audio. Finding a DAC isn't difficult, but all the others I found only had a volume control knob. My opinions following are only considering the product when used as I am now, in my entertainment system...Pros:- Slim and low-profile, so it doesn't stand out- Uses remote control- Has optical-in for best audio quality- Includes all the cables you needCons:- No method of checking volume level- Output is underpowered -- I already have the volume on my studio monitors cranked to 100%, and I still need to turn this up almost the entire way for normal volume levels. It would work better to connect this to an amplifier and then to speakers, even if they're already powered.- Remote has to be perfectly pointed at the device, not just in the general direction like a typical IR remote; not too big of an issue, though.TL;DR: Looks great, does what no other DAC can do (remote-controlled volume/power), but doesn't have much power.
