One of the great things about routers is the ability to change bits and mounting surfaces. The downside to changing those mounting bases/surfaces is when you (re)install them the factory edge is not necessarily straight or square anymore. Yeah I know measured with your tape measure so it’s good but there is an easier and faster way. If your on this page you already know you need something better, followed an Amazon suggestion or your cat walked across your keyboard. Those are the only 3 options, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. On to those people here because of reason number one. This awesome little doohickey centers the router base to your router through magic or science depending on the state you live in. Using the laws of thermodynamic fluid coupling concentricity (the old rules not the new ones) which state a cone that is larger than a round hole when inserted perpendicular will always find the center. So install the shaft in your router with the loosened base on and insert the magic cone and raise the base up till viola it’s centered. Now tighten the screws on the base till point right before deflection occurs and your done. Yeah it’s that easy.Seriously though, I’ve been using a 3D printed one for years and it did the job well enough but the ¼” shaft was always the week point due to layer lines when this thing rolled around in my tool chests. This centering tool completely eliminates that worry.

If you ever have to change out your routers base, this centering tool is a must have. I personally got this for my DeWalt DCW600B and it works perfectly. There isn't much to it, just a metal center pin for a 1/4-inch collet and a plastic centering cone. The cone fits nice and tightly on the pin with no play allowing for perfect centering of the base.
