About this item

  • Support SSD Life Prediction and Identify the Authenticity of Information to Avoid Buying Inferior Disks: DOCKCASE - The first smart SSD enclosure with an HD display screen, can complete the intelligent detection of SSD when the Smart SSD Enclosure is powered on. DOCKCASE can timely detect and display the SSD health status after power-on, disk life, disk power-on times, and remaining capacity at a glance. Safer data, more assured work
  • Support Hot Swap, Can Provide 10s PLP Prevent Writing Data Loss: The Power Loss Protection of DOCKCASE Smart SSD Enclosure provides around 10 seconds of writing time after power failure (the actual time will be affected by the working state and power consumption of the SSD), no data loss, no disk damage
  • Power Shortage Reminder: The newly added Power Shortage Reminder lets you grasp the current power supply situation. If the power is lower than 15W, there will be a yellow auxiliary power supply prompt in the upper left corner. It will turn blue after connecting to the auxiliary power supply Type-C port
  • Support 10 Gbps HIGH SPEED: DOCKCASE M.2 NVMe SSD external case adopts Realtek RTL9210 control chip and latest USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface. Support UASP acceleration protocol and support theoretical data transmission speed of up to 10Gbps. When using high-performance NVMe media, the read/write performance can exceed 900 Mbytes/sec. It includes USB-C to USB-C cables and works with USB-C hosts
  • Support Dual Heat Dissipation: In addition to supporting NVME, DOCKCASE RTL9210 control chip is equipped with temperature control with can be up to 10 degrees lower than other chips, reducing heat generation from the source. The first cover with the graphite thermal pad increased the heat dissipation area and blew away the heat timely enabling your SSD to maintain high transfer speeds and extend its longevity

Just like when I received the DOCKCASE Pocket M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, this DOCKCASE Explorer Edition M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure is another premium product that combines cutting-edge technology with a stylish and functional design. It surely stands out with its transparent cover that reveals the internal circuitry, giving it a modern and tech-forward aesthetic. The robust aluminum alloy frame not only enhances durability – I’m sure it serves as a heat dissipation. This enclosure truly goes beyond basic functionality with features like real-time monitoring via its innovative built-in display, i.e., having the ability to show my SSD health, performance metrics, and temperature at a glance is quite an incentive. It added advanced protection against power failures, which safeguards my data during unexpected interruptions of any kind.Installing an NVMe SSD was straightforward using one of the two screws that were included along with the screwdriver. Then I ran Windows Disk Management to partition and format my SSD to get it ready for data transfer. Before that, I originally purchased a 2TB WD Black SN850X with a heatsink, unfortunately it did not physically fit. Then I purchased a 2TB WD Black SN770, it seemed to have worked fine. However, after contacting DOCKCASE tech support (I must say is amazingly promptly responsive) about coming across the inability to use the WD Dashboard to check the SSD firmware update, I was informed to do that, the user needs to use a Thunderbolt-certified enclosure or insert the SSD directly into the PC mainboard. They also highlighted that I should be selecting an SSD from among the compatibility listed in their Amazon ad rolling screen below (which I overlooked). So I ended up purchasing a third SSD, a 2TB Corsair MP600 PRO NH.In summary, having the USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, this enclosure an impressive data transfer speeds for large file transfers, it combines style, functionality, and reliability. Its innovative features and high-quality build make it stand out in a crowded market. While minor improvements could be made to the documentation, it’s a top-notch choice for anyone who needs a reliable and high-performance SSD enclosure. Overall, this enclosure offers a great mix of style, innovation, and practicality. The only disadvantage I discovered was, that updating the DOCKCASE enclosure firmware is only available by contacting tech support, not directly online.

***Update: The seller has reached out to me and has given me a detailed explanation in regards to my issue. Also updated the star rating."GreetingsThank you for reaching out to us. I'm Katy from DOCKCASE, and I will be in charge of handling your after-sales case. I'm sorry that the product caused you trouble. According to your order information, the product you purchased is still within the 12-month warranty period. Please rest assured that we will take responsibility for handling any quality problems with the product. We’d like to provide more details about the Power Loss Protection (PLP) mechanism and explain how it works to keep your data safe during unexpected power interruptions.Power Loss Protection (PLP): The PLP feature utilizes built-in capacitors that provide a short burst of power in the event of an unexpected power loss. This mechanism allows critical data in transit to be safely saved, minimizing the risk of data corruption. Specifically:Capacitor Discharge: When the device loses power, the capacitor gradually releases its stored energy, allowing the device to safely complete any ongoing data transfers. This discharge is an expected part of the PLP process.Automatic Protection: After the capacitor fully discharges, the device then returns to its normal state. For optimal performance, we recommend waiting about 10 seconds before reconnecting the device to allow all circuits and data systems to fully reset.UI Notification: The on-screen notification helps users understand this process and avoid immediately restarting the device after a power interruption, as doing so could disrupt the normal operation of PLP.This design helps to protect both the device and data integrity, reducing the risk of data loss even during unexpected power outages.Additionally, when using the drive as a boot device, the computer may treat the drive as “ejected” after shutdown. This requires the drive enclosure to be reconnected upon reboot so the M.2 interface can be detected, allowing the drive to be recognized. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused during your experience with our product. To help make up for this, we would be happy to offer a 50% refund on your purchase.Thank you for your understanding, and please let us know if there is anything more we can assist you with."In short, it is part of the design of the product, and not an actual fault of the product.Case looks great. However I've encountered 2 issues so far. Firstly, when the capacity has a charge, and when I connect it to another pc, it won't detect it unless the capacitor is fully discharged before plugging it in. Same with bios boot menu. I have to fully discharge it, turn off the pc, plug the drive in, turn the system on, then it will be detected. If i restart without discharging, it won't bedetected again. Not sure if this is supposed to be a feature by design, or not. Trying to use this as a Bootable recovery disk using MediCat. Pretty unpractical that I have discharge it before booting up. I'll add more stars if the issue can be explained or resolved. My inexpensive $15 enclosure can do what I need it to do without any problems.

This little M.2 enclosure is pretty darn awesome. Looks fantastic hooked up. I installed an Intel P7600 2TB drive and use it on my son's PS5 via USB-C port and it works wonderfully. I had a Samsung 840 512GB SATA drive on the PS5. With this. It double in speed. I love it and it's well built.

Personally, this M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure from DOCKCASE Explorer Edition is not only a head-turner with its stunning aesthetics but also packed with some useful features. The display on it comes in handy, showing you valuable information about the attached drive during idle and current transfer speeds during read or write operations. While some of this data may be available on your device, it definitely adds a cool factor. The power loss prevention feature is quite effective, giving the drive a few extra seconds to complete data transfers in case of an accidental power interruption. However, it's worth noting that this cool display and the large capacitor do increase the overall power draw, potentially necessitating the use of the secondary USB-C port for additional power when connecting to certain portable devices. Installing your drive is a breeze, and they even include an extra screw in case you misplace one.Beyond the looks, this enclosure offers practicality too. The durable aluminum construction ensures longevity, and it's jam-packed with useful features like high-speed data transfer, support for up to 4TB storage, 10-second power loss protection, and an informative display. The see-through design adds an extra layer of uniqueness. Plus, the tempered glass ensures durability and safety. It's compatible with a range of M.2 SSDs, including both SATA and NVME drives, and it even provides details on SSD health, temperature, and data flow. While the power loss protection might not quite hit the advertised 10 seconds, it still offers ample time for the SSD to complete its tasks. In the end, it's a solid product with fantastic tech support and a plethora of features, making it a worthy choice for those who want a blend of style and functionality in their SSD enclosure.
