I bought this to use with a variable-speed drill press I retro-modded. It works well now. A little slow on response, but I'm using it in the 150-1,200 rpm range so that's to be expected. Once it settles down it does fine. I especially like that this tach runs on 115 VAC so I don't need a 12VDC power supply in my control box.The magnet supplied is worthless. Throw it away. To use the supplied magnet, the sensor had to be within feeler gauge range of the magnet. I tossed it and used a good neodymium magnet and it works with a clearance of around an inch!Be aware that the sensor is sensitive to the orientation of the magnet. One side of the magnet will not trigger it at all, the other works. Wave the magnet over the sensor a few times to find the right side and MARK IT. Be sure you install the magnet with that side facing the sensor.First picture is installed in the control box of my drill press. Second is sender magnet mounted it to the spindle sheave of the press. I used a good structural epoxy to secure it after filing a flat on the sheave. Third picture is the sensor mounted inside the head of the press. The mount is a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate.

installation is very straight forward Except that they dont mention that the hall sensor is sensitive to the polarity of the magnet. So if you have it all set up and it is only showing LLLL, try flipping the magnet around. I hope this helps someone.
