March 25 2024, bearings likely went out or plastic pulley is cracking. Went to start Jeep today, made a couple clunking sounds and crack type sound- opened hood & saw that my belt was partially off this pulley. This pulley now has play in it and it must have wobbled enough to throw the belt off at least one rib. Just for other people with different year 4.0L. this is a '97, there is no spring-loaded type auto belt tensioner it is a manual adjuster on the PS bracket. You have to be careful not to over tighten tensioner, I was very careful with it just to the point when high load of electric accessories on the belt started squeaking a bit.I think later Jeep 4.0 have a spring loaded tensioner in different belt/accessory routing.*This has been on this Jeep since Jan 2023. But This is an off-road only vehicle that probably has less than 300 mi since then with low running hours also. Totally unacceptable, something that runs all of your vital engine systems should be built to higher standards.. just fortunate didn't happen out on the trail. I even worried about it when first installed and kept old AC compressor in my tow rig just in case this failed, I recently took it out guess what I need to put AC comp back on!!

Quick shipping bolted right up and only one very minor flaw the pulley sits about a mm or so further back then the origian ac clutch pulley did so youll have to add a washer behind the pulley to push it firward abit further not a big deal or aeven a reason not to purchase but maybe doorman should include a shim or washer to correct this very small minor issue

This is on my 95 XJ. First off it is pretty cheap, but seems straight and solid while running. I’m not sure why nobodies mentioned that this mounts the pully a little closer to the firewall than the oem ac. This makes the belt over hang the idler pully a couple mm. I had to adjust the bearing in the idler to move the pully closer in. It’s running great now!

What you want in a good pulley system is a good bearing that spins freely. This one spins pretty well all things considered. IF you remove your AC Compressor on a Jeep motor you are going to have a profound problem with belt slippage if you go with shorter belt, and are going to also encounter water pump issues as the flow of the coolant will not go the way it should which will lead to overheating. This is a good product to ensure your belt stays on, and keeps the coolant flowing correctly as you don’t have to change your belt routing. After not having the right belt, if you are putting this pulley on a 1997 TJ with a 2.5L engine, the belt you will need is a 920k6. Because you will need a 92" belt as your factory belt with air is an inch too short. After several trips to autozone, I finally got the right belt. So, you will need an additional inch. As is the case with all things, that extra inch makes all the difference for a correct fit.

I bought this because my 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 straight six decided to no longer want A/C and ended up seizing there for my belt would slip off driving . It took maybe five minutes to install and haven’t had a problem since

The ultimate install it and forget it. Really didn't want to spend a ton of money or time replacing the compressor, etc on 1998 Jeep for my 20 year old especially with the fall and winter just around the corner. Installed this myself in about an hour and also used a in the process. Worked like a charm and we haven't looked back.

My ac compressor went out and I learned about bypass pulleys via forums. I installed this particular one about 4 months ago and have not had any problems. Installation was ridiculously simple. The only issue was evacuating the refrigerant from the ac compressor/lines (i guess you're not supposed to evacuate it yourself according to some). Some places will do this for free if you shop around, Midas did it for less than $40.Great solution if your ac compressor goes out, and the price is definitely rightUPDATE: 12 months now and it's still running fine. No problems.

Received in excellent condition and installed the day after. My AC compressor clutch froze on my Cherokee, and I wasn't about to buy another compressor with winter weather already here. I figured for a few bucks this should work. Fit snug, my old bolts were rusted slightly so I had to tap the holes and clean the rust. The new hardware with this is okay for its use. Make sure to clean the area prior to installing! And examine your belt too, since you have to remove it from the compressor.
