The item was a perfect fit for the 2007 4Runner. The installation process was by no means difficult. Once door gate panel is removed(1 screw), access is available for the removal of 10mm screws. The rest was easy. It’s a quality item that makes the tailgate work as new. Price is reasonable..

This took much longer to install than I initially thought. It isn’t hard but I would recommend a set of body tools to help with the job. Set aside at least an hour. Once installed it makes a huge difference in the winter opening the hatch.

I purchased a 2013 4Runner used and had been having intermittent trouble with the backup working sporadically. When reaching for the lift gate handle one day, I noticed it was melted and sagging in the middle. I ordered a new rubber cover and was able to install it, to an extent, from the exterior. I wasn’t able to hook the runner edges of the rubber cover under the metal lift gate. Was always worried I may get water in there. Finally, I figured that maybe the camera camera was working occasionally because the hatch release button would release fine, but took an extended period of time to reset itself, making the camera think it wasn’t engaged and should work.I ordered this replacement part and took apart the back hatch. When you take of cover, there is a larger, heavy mil plastic cover across the back. DO NOT CUT THIS!!! Slowly and carefully peel it back along the edges from the black, tar-like adhesive. This stuff will peel apart slowly and reapplies itself. I found it helpful to cut the black tar with scissors as I peel the plastic back. Removed a lot of screws and completely removed and disassembled the rear hatch mechanism. Lots of work to get to the part. Put the new piece in and reassembled everything, and now my camera and hatch release work perfectly! So happy with my purchase. Definitely recommend this product!

Installed this on a 2009 Toyota 4runner. The original release was so badly melted that it would leave black residue on my hand every time I had to open the tailgate. Before purchasing, I watched Youtube and had to refer to it thru the entire install. It took me a few hours to complete mainly because I didnt have the right tools. The only thing not mentioned in the Youtube video was that once you close the tailgate to remove the outer parts, you’ll have to climb back in the car to hook everything back up on the inside of the tailgate. There’s no other way since the power was dismantled from the outside. So, make sure u have good lighting or at least a flashlight. Other than that, the install went pretty smoothly and no more black, sticky residue!
