Truth is that even the ligature in this kit has some value and it adds together to be fair value. However, you or your child will not become good at playing the saxophone with this model. The table wasn't perfect, it had some lines dented into it, there is just something that isn't quite right. I bought this to learn some basic alto saxophone from my son who plays etc., and was having a heck of a time getting anything to happen until I switched to a different mouthpiece. There may be some reed/player combos that work with this, but I was truly surprised how this mouthpiece made it almost impossible to play when compared with other options. The Yamaha 4C, the 5C, or a variety of other options in the sub-$50 range will get you to a whole different experience... especially if you're using cheap reeds!

Not as easy to put on as I hoped but I still like it a lot!

I’ve been playing alto on and off for 35+ years. I picked this up to test it out, because I’ve been playing on a concert mouthpiece with a single-screw ligature all these years. The mouthpiece itself might be okay for a student, but the ligature is awful, so I really can’t say. It wouldn’t stay put and wouldn’t hold a reed without opening all the way up. Then, it kept sliding up and not holding the reed in place. I tried it front and rear facing to no avail. It just wouldn’t stay in place. A top-down look at the mouthpiece shows that the ligature is malformed (the gaps around the mouthpiece should NOT be there). So maybe I got a dud. Regardless, I won’t be using it and would return it if I could.

This is well constructed and works well for beginners. It provides a comfortable fit and produces a nice sound. The cover is a little big and the mouthpiece and ligature simply slide in an out but effective nonetheless. The ligature has a nice rubber ridged reed holder so you don't have to worry it come loose or sliding around. The brass screw is smooth and easy to tighten or loosen.

Unfortunately like everything from China the product description uses a lot of words without any value to the product. So the type of mouthpiece is missing. It seams to be a straight baffle. My old mouthpiece has a roll over baffle and a metal ligature with two screws. The saxophone mouthpiece (on the photos on the right side) has a different chamber than the mouthpiece which came with the saxophone. The shank is a little bit shorter and the chamber is squarish at the inside. The table has the same length, so the opening on the shank. The biggest difference is the ligature, it is made from leather and has only one screw. I think this type a ligature has a better evenly grip on the reed. When I played the mouthpiece the first time I heard no difference to the other one. It is a good mouth piece for beginner and advancing players. The only downside I see is because of the design and material of the ligature the mouthpiece does not fit into the compartment in the saxophone bag. Also to use the right side (because of the cone shape of the mouthpiece and ligature) ) is hard to determine. The easiest way is the company logo, but that will wear off. The plastic cap doesn't fit the mouthpiece (with ligature), it's to big and the mouthpiece is moving around. If you use a synthetic reed you usually keep (after cleaning) on the mouthpiece there is a good change it will be damaged. There is a good change that I use the old mouthpiece with the new ligature (even it will not fit into the bag).Update: After my son and I played the mouthpiece for a few times we made the decision not to use either the mouthpiece nor the ligature any longer because of the squeaky tones it produces.
