I have installed W.R. t.stats before. This was very difficult to connect. Very small connectors. Also. The display does not lite up. And batteries are required. W.R. used to better than other brands. Not any more. In my opion.

The thermostats that came with the new house were too complex and had no instructions. Hated them. Couldn't ask for a simpler thermostat to use. Hook up was simple enough. Just make sure to study the old one and hook up like for like and it should work fine.

I wanted a digital thermostat because my old analog/mercury thermostat was becoming untrustworthy. The settings didn't seem to match the true temperature. So, I looked for a simple device that could be set and left alone. I'm retired and home most of the time, so programming was not something I needed or wanted. The White-Rodgers has a better reliability rating than Honeywell and a better price. Amazon reviews were very positive. My thermostat is a 4-wire system and the instructions that came with the WR were detailed and easy to follow. Installation took approximately 1/2 hour, including the search for better moly anchors in the basement. So far, I'm very happy with the device. I'd recommend it to anyone who spends most of their time at home and wouldn't require programmable temperature changes.EDIT: Sitting here in 23 degree weather, 2 days before Christmas, I thought I'd give an update. The thermostat is flawless in its performance and much more accurate in its control of temperature than my old analog device. The only downside is that the screen is not backlit and requires me to turn on the hallway light to adjust the temperature setting. Other than that....it's good to go.

So far it has worked well and a lot better than a more expensive programmable that only lasted two years from a competitor(Honeywell Programmable) that is sold in most hardware stores.Easy to install.Only drawback its not back lit but a real good job and quality for the money. Our AC/Heating service recommended White and Rodgers 700 for a non-programmable and called them bullet-proof.Glad we bought it and the past 2 months we have no problems as compared to the last one which we had problem from the beginning .The craftsmanship is not as flimsy as the competitors was. I would recommend it !

I tend to have a love/hate reaction to most dIgital thermostats. I love it when they are highly accurate and easy to use. I hate it when they are overly complex. The good news is that the White-Rodgers Model 700 is a real keeper, and I really like it. Why? Because it is very easy to use and you do not have to read a long, boring manual to figure out how to use it. It is also very accurate and straightforward to use. Lastly, it is easy to service. Some digital thermostats are very difficult to remove from the wall when they need to have their batteries replaced. The White-Rodgers Model 700 is extremely well engineered, and it is easy to perform routine service on it.I think you will be highly pleased with this thermostat.

Accurate temps - however 1 thing I don't like - you hear a click every time the furnace turns on. The click sound is a bit loud that you will be able to hear it. Otherwise it works fine - so far.

These do not read air temps correctly (verified by two other sources). Off by 2-3 degrees. Gave it two stars for looks and easy installation.
