This was obviously a returned item. It did not have the batteries, or the mounting screws and the box was not sealed. I wired it in anyway because the temperature was dropping into the teens outside. with new batteries I put in it did not show the temperature, or take a program, or even set the hold point. I ended up running up to Menards and returning this one. I hope they don't just sell it to someone else.

Our old (almost 30 years) thermostat died, so I replaced it with this Emerson Thermostats 1F78-151 Single-Stage Programmable Digital Thermostat. It looked most like, and functions just like our old thermostat, so I am happy. We have a “standard” furnace/AC unit, no heat pump or other fancy setup, so this does the job for us quite well.

AC kept running after temperature reaches and even made thermostat constantly run , temperature was higher than setting. Replaced with this new thermostat and AC is operating properly. I changed filter and cleaned drainage lines, plus condenser unit before I ordered. Saved myself several hundred dollars on service call during feel like temps close to 100° in the northeast.

I have installed a dozen or two of these thermostats over the years and never had one fail. This is a basic function programmable t-stat, it has a weekday program and a weekend program, you manually select heat or cool.It doesn't have a touch screen with a bunch of menus, 50 buttons or a 100 page manual to read, it doesn't link up to your network, phone or NASA -- none of that nonsense.Very easy to use, programming takes just a few minutes and if you want to temporarily override the program it is easy to do and changing back simply requires pushing run.It doesn't cost much, is easy to use and will control your furnace or AC unit reliably for years to come.Highly recommended.

We live in an older house and when the panel for our heating stopped working in the bedroom I was worried we would have trouble replacing it. This unit worked perfectly and we had heat in no time. Was easy to install and worked right away. Display is clear and bright as well. Matches the other units in the house and displays accurate temperature.

Good product. Instructions complicated so not for the average person. But happy with it.

I have several of these for a long time. They were previously sold as White Rogers, now sold as Emerson. The electronics have changed over the years, but the outside shape and the model number did not. The thermostat is easy to operate and program, and I like that the LCD shows two temperatures at once: the current room temperature and the temperature the thermostat is set to maintain. One glance, and you know everything you need to know. The LCD is not backlit: if you plan to check the settings in darkness, you need a flashlight. This thermostat has only two programs: one for all weekdays, and one for the entire weekend. This is called 5+2. If you need more granularity, such as 5+1+1 (separate programs for Sat/Sun), or seven days (separate program for each day of the week), you need something else. Programming such a thermostat would take longer though, so only go for it if you really need to.

Where you attach the wires --the connectors were a lot smaller than the white rogers model. It was harder to connect to the unit. It is possible and the unit works. That is the main thing. The box was the same size as the White - Rodgers model.Works the same as the white-rodgers.

good clear instructions and easy to install, this is the way to go, i have now tested my rooms and it seems with this new thermostat and some duct rework all the rooms in the house are { +/- 1 degree difference} @ outside temp, of less than -5degrees celcius, and above 5degrees celcius. you can turn it down by the HOLD or program it if you go away,. its great Thank You.

I just wana say how easy this thermostat is to install and program. I replaced a non programmable thermostat in my apartment with this one. I live in the Midwest and it’s get pretty cold.. so I bought this little guy so I can’t set it to turn on a few hours before I wake up to warm my apartment up.. and when I leave it will turn off.. so I don’t have to remember to lower the temp before I leave.. the unit came with 2 screws, the plastic wall anchor thing and 2 batteries and instructions.. I bough mine refurbished for $18 and there are no blemished or issues.. looks and works fine.. I had the same exact model and brand but the basic one.. so I took a pic of the wires and just used that to install the new one. Very straight forward and simple.. programming took me less than 5 minutes.. I mean how easy was that!!! You program the weekday and the weekend separately.. honestly I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t be happy with this product.. I don’t have any experience with wires or even hvac.. just kill the power to your furnace and you should be safe.. honestly I’m thinking the bad reviews are just people who are not so very smart..

I own two of these thermostats. One was a new installation for a new furnace, and the other was a recent replacement for another programmable brand.I find this product to be a great value considering its functionality. It is programmable separately for heating and cooling systems, which is always a nice option (some brands/models are "one season at a time" so you have to constantly reprogram every season). The 1F78 can be programmed for four programs for each weekday, as well as for programs for weekends. This is your basic 5/2 programming. This model DOES NOT let you program for individual days, so if that is an option you want, skip the 1F78. For example, you can program for Mon-Fri, and Sat/Sun, but not Monday independently. I've had that feature on other thermostats and it is nice if you like to maybe let the heat stay on later on a Saturday night compared to Sunday, for example. However, for the price that was a small sacrafice to me, given the other features and ease of use.I do like the EMR (Energy Management Recovery) feature on this thermostat. It "calculates", based on current temperature and desired temp/time when it should come on. For example, it you want it to be 70 degrees at 7 AM, you don't need to guess how early to start the thermostat in order to call for heat and reach 70 by 7 AM. You just set it for 7 AM, and what it does is come on about 5 minutes earlier for each heating degree it is below your set temperature. For cooling, EMR will turn on you A/C 15 minutes early for each degree above your set point. You can disable the EMR feature if you prefer. What's in the box:The 1F78 thermostatInstruction manualTwo mounting screwsTwo screw anchorsTwo AAA batteries (mine were Duracell, obviously this could change depending on manufacturer shipping).Set up is simple. TURN OFF ELECTRICTY to your HVAC, which should cut power to your old thermostat (except for any batteries in it). Remove your old thermostat, taking note of the wiring colors in use. Tape/tie off your wiring cable so it does not fall into the wall!! Run the wires through the back of the 1F78 and connect to the appropriate terminals.Display is basic LCD - gray on gray, backlit in amber when you press a key. The display is easy to read.Controls are simple to understand, and you are used to programmable thermostats, timers, etc. you may not even need the manual to program this product. The buttons are basic - Time, Program, Run, Hold, and Fan (On/Auto) and System (Cool/Off/Heat).I have one complaint about this product, and its not a huge deal and you should only need to deal with it once - the wiring terminals. The terminals themselves are screw-down, which is nice since you don't have to wrap the wire on a terminal. But there is very little room in between the terminals, so it can be a pain to work the wires into each terminal to tighten them down.Overall, this is a reliable thermostat. I've had no issues with my first, which is about four years old, and the newly installed one took about 20 minutes to install. I would purchase this product again.
