Always use Ernie Ball 46-10 and then replace the .17s with .16s. They conveniently come in this multipack!

These packs of multiple strings of a single gauge are great for replacing the ones that in my experience break the most.I do a great deal of string bending in my playing, most often on the GBE strings, so they're straining at the bridge and nut quite often and, occasionally, one goes ping long before the set gets played out and needing complete replacement. My string sets also last a long time thanks to, I assume, my body chemistry, so it is my way of keeping the thicker strings on the guitar for their full life.Took me years to discover that these sets were available, now I can't imagine playing without these in reserve.

The Ernie Balls, especially these plain sets, unravel on me when you use them the first time of tuning up. It has happened to me over and over again. It is the way they are finished at the ends. This has been happening to me whether I buy them through Amazon or the Guitar Center. They start slipping and detuning and eventually pull out or break. They also break easily if they don't have the unravelling problem. This will happen one or two times a six-pack. It also happens on regular sets. I won't buy Ernie Balls anymore.

Perfect solution to replacing only the strings that tend to break or lose their liveliness/luster rather than changing out whole sets. I've been using these, the .009's and the .011's in 6 paks as well for years for the same reasons. Dependable with an unbeatable price point, too.
