Although I was sent the wrong shape the guilty of the wood is good and smooth the thickness is good. Well worth the money spent.

These are really high quality wooden "canvases" in a neat oval shape. The exact dimensions are given in the description and are correct. The price is great for the quality. The wood is very smooth all around, will be easy to sand down lightly, then apply a coat of gesso, then black paint as a base for what I do, which is dot mandala paintings. I am really looking forward to painting oval designs. The shape is very attractive and I like that the back is where you could hang your project with a nail in the empty space on the back--either lengthwise or width-wise. Really great for around $4 each.

The manufacturer shipped these birchwood canvases in cardboard. While there are no dents or gouges in the wood, the canvases must be sanded since they have rough edges and slivers. Also, for some reason, the four canvases have black marks (see photo) on each face. Since I will be using gesso on these canvases, I am hopeful it will cover the black marks if I cannot remove them with light sanding. The 8-inch high canvas is four inches wide at the widest point in the oval. It is quite small, but you should be pleased with the canvases if you want this size. The oval backing of the canvas is not wood; instead, it is particle board. To finish the ¾-inch edge around the wooden canvas, you must sand it for the paint to stick. If you notice the pictures on the product description, the finished paintings on the product did not paint this edge. This is highly unusual as most artists paint the canvas trim. These are mediocre canvases that require much work to prepare for painting.

This is a nice set of small oval wood pieces. Just prime them and then they're ready to go! They're a good size for cute little paintings, and it's nice to have a shape other than square or rectangle.They seem to be smooth and sturdy, and were not damaged in shipping at all.
