This is the second one we purchased; we want to compost even more and also ensure that we don’t continue adding scraps to the first one. It needs time to break down/do its thing without new additions of brown and greens. I love that it’s an easy to spin tumbler that allows for the greatest amount of churn for the items composted and very little manual effort on our end! It is super easy to roll it around the yard once the materials are broken down.

I had high hopes for this but it has been a nightmare. Had been placing the normal kitchen scraps, grass clippings and leaves and turning as instructed. But the contents turned into a big wet nasty clump mess that became very difficult to turn. So I'm wondering why. Well there is no ventilation! Tried leaving the door open and no change. I drilled quite a few holes to create ventilation and did get some really nasty oozing. Not sure what this composer created but I was finally able to get this nasty clump out and a week later it's still a nasty clump.Gonna try again to use it with the increased ventilation. We'll see. But using it as sold it is hopeless. Wish I could return. One of the worst purchases I have made on Amazon.

This is our third tumbling composter...the other two broke. This one will endure. I will end up buying another.

Have had it for over a year and it works great. I am a lazy composter, so I don't turn it as often as I should but it still does its thing (slowly). You will need to add in water from time to time to help things along. It has held up very well through ice and snow and I never get bad smells coming from it.

This is a great tumbler. It came in three pieces -- that's it! -- with no screws. The instructions were inside the tumbler, but I didn't need them. The product consists of a base that is flat on one side, curved on the other; a big cylindrical tumbler; and a sliding door for the tumbler. The tumbler sits on the base, and has handholds making it relatively easy to rotate. That said, because the tumbler does not sit on wheels and is not mounted on a pole, it does require some force to rotate it -- it's not like you can push it once and watch it spin like it's Wheel of Fortune or something. The only other downside is that the air holes, which are on the sides of the canister, are a bit large, so if you have compost material that is small -- for example, I have sawdust and coffee grounds in there -- some of it will leak out when you turn the composter. However, it's not much, and I just sweep it up with a dust pan and put it back in the hot frog.Lastly, the name of this product is great. My wife and I have a habit of yelling HOTFROG! at each other whenever there's something to compost.Enjoy! This is a really solid product and I definitely recommend it.

No assembly except placing barrel on its stand, maybe sliding the door on, if it slides off pulling this out of the box. I have two barrels, one door came with some appropriate sliding friction. The second one has zero friction while new and clean, slides off too easily, but I expect that will pass as some dirt gets built up in the grooves. These seem quite sturdy, but I have not had them long enough to prove that a 5-star rating is warranted. After nearly filling up one barrel from my old, broken, turn-with-a-shovel bin, and rolling it across the yard, I realized it takes significant effort. You are essentially lifting a lot of the stuff in the barrel as you roll it, then having the upper stuff thump down to the bottom as it breaks free. Same when rolling it on its stand. More awkward than one might expect, but just takes some practice. Lift from the bottom rather than trying to push on the top. There are enough handles to make this relatively simple. However, if strength or other disability is an issue, get a composter that spins on a stand and can empty into a wheelbarrow or wagon.

This is big enough to function well and small enough to easily set up or move

made of hard plastic it's very sold the only issue I have is that once this composter is 3/4 full it's very hard to roll it while it's on it's base, plastic on plastic does not roll that well, you have to lift it off it's base and take it for a roll around the yard not my idea of practical. A couple of roller bearings on the base would of made things so much easier.

I like it... its pre assembled, you just unbox it and ole' you are ready to fill it up. The turning and stuff will work well I think. It sits on the ground not some weird stand.. it looks cool. I almost gave it 2 or 3 stars though... mostly as the veg. decomposes I guess it releases water vapor .. when it is below freezing that LOCKS the lid shut (hammer time) .. with varying degrees sometimes its a little hard to open cold, sometimes you have to kick it, sometimes use a good whack from a hammer. So if its not too cold where you live I'd say 5 stars if its like it's been here below freezing at night, it will not open. thinking on some oil will rectify this... but veg. oil probably goes bad might not work so good, motor oil probably not good for the garden, I think it will be 5 stars once I rub the slider door with some Ivory soap, thats what I settled on just now, while writing this. I really need to plan more. Its cold out now I will wait till it defrosts.

So happy with this, I've just purchased a second one.Very sturdy, heavy plastic. Comes ready assembled, two pieces - base and barrel. The barrel is completely sealed and rodent and critter proof, which was important to me, as I have had an open compost bin before which as attracted rats.I've also had a barrel compost bin on a metal stand before, which I found very unstable and hard to rotate once full. When full this one is heavy, but I am still able to rotate it to mix up the compost. I mostly use it for kitchen waste, supplemented by some garden waste to get the right mix. It is definitely making compost. I bought a second one, because I wanted to let the first one finish, and not keep adding new stuff to it. I am now going to let the compost in the first one develop and begin filling my second barrel.Recommended!
