Nice and affordable gelcoat. This is my second gallon used while restoring my 13 foot boat and no complaints so far.

My much-used tandem fiberglass sea-kayak needed some attention, so I read the various product reviews, noted that a gallon of Fiberglass Supply Depot White Gelcoat with Wax was priced competitively, and that it would arrive in time for three days of rare upper 80s/low 90s ( 30-35 C) mid-September temperatures here on the south shore of Lake Superior. The product came with 60cc of hardener, which, if mixed at ratios appropriate for the temps, would allow about 20-25 minutes of working time. In my case, that was about the time needed to spread 1/2 pint (240 ml) of mix (including 2.5 ml hardener) with a roller over the 30 square feet (2.8 square meters) comprising one side of the kayak bottom. With the wax version of this product, I needed to sand after each coat, and that was possible within about three hours under warm conditions, or four when in the mid/upper 70s (mid 20s C). I ended up doing four coats, and found that all of the scratches were filled and none of the discolorations from the epoxy repairs visible. A fifth would have been perfect, but that would be wasted on the next sand or gravel beach.I'm not experienced working with boats, but I found this product to be very predictable, and the end result exceeded my expectations.

The gel coat was easy to apply. By following the directions, and working with a friend, we were able to move quickly to apply the product before it hardened on to my fiberglass pool steps and give them a new lease on life. They look bright, white and as good as new!

This is an excellent product worth every bit of the money spent. It is superior in strength and repairing boats. Best product to use.

I've been mixing this with colloidal silica to fill cracks. Good adhesion. No re-cracking after 2-3 trips so far. I wish it didn't shrink during cure so much. Have to fill 2-3 times on bigger areas.

I have a large houseboat and wanted to gel coat part of my fly deck. The space I treated was 20 by 38 ft. I used a 3/4 inch roller to give the gelcoat surface a slightly rippled surface. The MEK was mixed at 1% (two tsp of MEK per Quart. I just poured the gelcoat onto the deck and used a broom handle to apply the mixture. After applying one quart, I simply went back to my table and made up another quart. I used a plastic 2 qt. paint bucket to mix. I have never done this before and was a bit skittish. I should not have been!! It was so easy and I only used 1 1/2 gallons of the gel coat. The coverage was absolutely amazing!! I applied a second coat to some of the rougher surfaces with no trouble at all. I let the mixture set overnight, but was pretty well hardened in an hour. The result was fantastic. I had to remove a couple of insects from the gel coat, but a quick brush over the surface fixed it just fine. This is a five star gel coat and I had so much fun. I used painter's tape to trim the surface area. Go to you tube and check out the info there. Have fun!!
