About this item

  • A 2 pound coil that is 350' long
  • Kraft Brown
  • Enough to weave a standard size seat, larger seats may require more
  • full color instruction booklet
  • Peg and Wedge included

Here we have a very nice kit to weave one average rush chair seat. (Large seats may take more than one coil). It includes a 2 pound coil 5/32 Kraft brown fibre rush, 1 peg and 1 wedge plus instructions. The instructions are a 20 page full color booklet full of close up photos and tips. It's meant for the beginning caner, but an experienced caner will benefit from some of the tips offered. It was written and produced by Ed Hammond, who has been caning for over 30 years and has taught many classes on caning.

I received my order quickly and found the booklet to be very helpful which included photos along with descriptions. (Their YouTube video is extremely informative!) The 350 foot coil was enough for a straight rectangular foot stool measuring 14"x18" with about 19 feet leftover. The wedge that was included was essential to ensuring a quality job in keeping the rush compressed on the sides and the peg is very handy toward the end. I highly recommend this if you're weaving a seat!I will note that my hands were incredibly tired after doing this from pulling the rush so tight and using the clamps. That's the hardest part in my opinion.

I purchased this package from Peerless for my first chair work...the quality of the rush was excellent and it uncoiled nicely during the process. The accompanying tools and the instructions were outstanding! Ed's video is also a must for beginners. Sadly, I purchased a cheaper rush coil for my second chair and it was inferior material...I will stick with Ed and Peerless from now on!!!

The kit was made the job easier and the rushing was fine to work with, but 350’ was not enough to finish my rocking chair. The description said a normal size chair. My chair was about 20x17. I had to order more rushing to finish the job. All in all, I think my chair turned out great!!

I was not too sure about repairing a rush seat, but the cost of having someone else repair it was too expensive. After watching a few videos, decided to give it a try. Ran into a few issues like staples not going into hardwood frame, but managed to solve these problems. The rush material was great! Followed the dampening instructions and used clamps. The instructions were really well written and easy to follow. Was able to repair my rush seat at substantially less cost and now I know how to repair the other seats if they ever need it in the future!

This is the first time I have ever tried rush weaving. I have a stool seat that needed to be rewoven. The instruction booklet provided helpful instructions. I also found the YouTube videos very helpful. I suggest buying two clamps to hold rush in place. There was more than enough rush to weave one 13x15 inch seat.

This is a great all included rush chair seat kit .. I just wanted to give a heads up about the T-25 staple gun which they suggest you use . It’s very stiff and extremely difficult to squeeze . I’m a pretty strong woman but I found it close to impossible to stable tightly with my hand strength ..after fiddling a lot I finally figured out that if I put my rush seat chair on its side on the floor I could staple with my weight behind it and it finally worked ..then flip to the other side and staple again ...luckily you only have to stable the first 8 or so fibers on each side then you can put the gun down .. good luck .
