First, I am not a pro, if you're looking for pro feedback, skip my post. I'm just a home-jobber who did the homework to know how to replace this thing on a water heater. What's to say, this is a safety device used in gas-fired water heaters to control the thermocouple feedback via a thermal overload switch. If the overload switch trips, this will cause an interruption in thermocouple feedback to the gas-valve, which will result in the gas-valve shutting off the flow of gas to the burner. This is a 'dry' fitting, no sealant/teflon tape required. It is an electrical connection only.I can only attest that the system works inasmuch as my burner started up and runs/cycles. I have not seen it do anything in the thermal overload case, and I hope to never see it need to.I only needed this b/c I have a water heater that originally came with the infamous left-hand thread thermocouple hookup. Short story, that gas valve got 'worked' and had to be replaced. The new one is right-hand-threaded, so needed the right-hand-thread version of this adapter. The manuf. used to also sell a left-hand-threaded version (TCA-2), which is no-longer-available (NLA).

Had an older water heater with external power vent. Pilot kept going out. Installed new thermopile to no avail. Unit ran fine without adapter. When I received product it was in 2 pieces had to insert actuator into coupler. Working fine since
