This makes fishing so much easier after catching the fish. It’s easy to hook onto a fish’s mouth, so you can take out the hook and then hold up the fish. It’s well-made and durable. It does not look or feel like a cheaply made item. It’s not big in stores easily. It is a great value.

I am excited to use these this season. They feel good in your hand, they open almost 2in to make sure it fits in any species lip. It has the double groove grip on the clamps so it doesn't slip. The top arm is essentially in line so you can hook your scale into it. The lanyard is nice quality, but seems like it needs to be on the other handle which would be where I would hook my scale. Either way I won't be keeping this dangling from my wrist while fishing. After the jaws meet pressure it has a good 1 in or so of handle clamp which feels like a solid 8 lb of pressure to get it to actually clamp closed. The black and orange is a clean looking color. I have not had any other brands or anything of fish grippers, so I am excited to use these.

I'm one of those people that likes to fish but doesn't like to touch the fish. So this is the perfect tool for me to keep my fish contact to a minimum. The tool feels well made and the parts all fit together well so there really isn't any unwanted play. I've used it a few times now and it holds on the fish quite well. I'm not using this for weighing, just holding the mouth open so I can extract the hook and it is perfect for that. This will be a must have in my tackle box going forward.

A larger, more substantial grabber than we've used in the past. Honestly, with the exception of catfish, which we don't target, in Central Texas we really don't need a fish lip grabber, so we've not used this one yet. However, we often head for the gulf coast and toothy fish, so this, hopefully, will be needed. We've been using our smaller, smooth jaw, grabbers on past trips, and they are just too small for what we hope to catch. All that said, and given we mostly catch and release, we're a little concerned about the big serrations, the toothed, in the jaws of this grabber. To us those look like they could cause major damage to a fish's lips and mouth. It's a trade off: securely hold on to the fish to remove the hook, or risk the fish slipping out of the jaws and falling/crashing to the jagged jetty rocks. Either way seems to hurt. On the other hand, we see other grabbers of this size that have smooth jaws. We may just get a pair of those and see what works best.Otherwise, these work well in practice. They seem very durable. They are light weight. If anyone is wondering, no, they don't float, not in fresh water anyway. The way the lanyard attaches, it seems it was added on as an afterthought.

Thy plastic nylon material seems like good quality. It also seems to clamp down pretty good. I like how it's got teeth to really bite down and hold. I know how it can be slippery at times to really grab onto a fish's mouth. The strap is useful too and easy to install. Overall, pretty good.

I recently had the chance to try out the **Fish Gripper 9.2' Fish Grabber Tool with Lanyard**, courtesy of the Vine Program. After some hands-on experience, I wanted to share my first impressions, review, and personal opinion.**Build Quality & Functionality**The build quality of these fish grippers is impressive for the most part. They feel solid in hand, and it’s clear that they are designed to handle the demands of handling fish, whether in saltwater or freshwater. The included lanyard is a nice touch, as it adds a layer of security in case the tool slips out of your grip—a great feature for anyone fishing on a boat or near water. When it comes to their functionality, the grippers do well in grabbing fish by the mouth and helping to lift them into the boat. I found this process smooth and reliable, especially for active fish that tend to wriggle and resist a landing net. The grip provided by these is adequate, and they seem to keep hold pretty firmly under normal circumstances.**Challenges with Weighing Fish**The one significant drawback I noticed comes into play when using the grippers to weigh a fish. If the fish starts flopping around, the grippers have a tendency to loosen or open slightly, which can make it difficult to get an accurate weight or, worse, potentially drop the fish. While they work great for simply lifting or holding the fish, I do think the clamping force could be stronger to provide a more secure hold when fish are moving unpredictably.**Value for Money**One of the highlights of this Fish Gripper tool is its price point—it’s quite affordable compared to other fish grabber tools on the market. This makes it an attractive option for anglers who want something functional without breaking the bank. However, the issue of the clamp failing during weight measurement might leave some questioning if spending a little extra on a higher-end gripper would be worth it.**Should You Buy It?**I’m somewhat on the fence about fully recommending this product. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option for basic fish handling, it’s definitely worth considering. The grippers excel at securely grabbing and lifting fish, which is arguably their primary purpose. However, if you’re someone who frequently weighs your catches and needs a tool that stays locked even when the fish is flopping around, you might find these grippers a little frustrating.**Final Thoughts**Overall, these Fish Grippers are a decent option if you’re primarily focused on lifting and holding fish. They do what they’re meant to do for the most part and come at a budget-friendly price. That said, they fall short when it comes to securely closing during fish weighing, which could be an issue for some users. For what they are and the price they’re offered at, they’re a reasonable choice, but with room for improvement.

Two years ago, a small northern pike had a panic attack while I was attempting to unhook it. Not only did its teeth scrape my finger, but it also drove a hook into the web between my thumb and index finger -- then it proceeded to flop around. Since then, I have ordered several of these so I can have one for each of my tackle boxes. Even smaller fish, like white bass and bullheads have some sharp spines, and I can remember several times getting stuck pretty badly by one of their fins. This is a useful tool for ice fisherman, especially trying to get a northern pike out of the hole. And kayakers may prefer it to a net, since it will handle very large fish and take up very little room compared to a traditional net.It comes in an attractive box, and would make a great gift for any angler that does not already have one.
