You'll be happy you bought it. I was so skeptical that this would work. Had tried a bunch of other things to get the tank clear. I cannot believe how clear the tank is after just four days!

Works great! This also has a hole for the light so you know when the UV light is on. The last one I had didn't have this so I never knew if it was on or not. This aerates the water really well and you have the UV light to help kill the algae. You need this if you want crystal clear water.

This filter worked great at clearing up the water in my tank… for about 3 weeks. I noticed the uv indicator light had gone out so I took it out, figuring the sponge could use a cleaning anyway, and when I opened the unit the uv bulb was completely full of water. Nope won’t purchase this again and recommend not waisting your money on this cheap product.VCRAZE stellar customer service reached out and offered a replacement or refund. I am choosing a replacement since it did work very well. Let’s hope the next one is a charm. Thank You VCRAZE

This pump not worth any penny, I had to repurchase a second pump and that’s the only way my tank got cleaned up almost instantly. And with this one my tank had lots of algae and was always dirty.Update: the seller gave an amazing customer service and helped me resolve the issue, I might have had a faulty item.

Like many, my product reviews tend to happen when I’m dissatisfied with something. I rarely write positive reviews because stuff is just supposed to work. But this filter has been a game changer. We have a 35gal tank with large goldfish (for the kids) and from day one we were getting large algae blooms. I’d do water changes, clean the tank, tried tank chemicals, all to no avail. I bought this UV filter and put it into the tank, running it 24 hours a day, and within 5 days the tank was clear. I dropped it down to 12 hours and still maintained clarity, so then dropped it to 6 hours and a month in, it’s working like a charm. Well worth the price!

If you're looking for an aquarium or vivarium filter, this is only a supplementary filter that relies only on a sponge to keep coarse material out, and only "cleans" (disinfects) using UV light, thus it must be used with a primary filter that deals with both particulates and chemicals.Using this in a small aquarium isn't recommended as it is designed for 40-60 gallons, although I suppose you could make use of the extra power for a waterfall or similar. Please note that the UV light is permanently attached to the power cord and receptacle for it, so when it burns out you have to find a replacement that is complete unless you have special skills! The sponge filters out particulates to maximize the results of the UV light. It is in the bottom chamber, but on the opposite side of the dividing wall in the intake area. Accessing this chamber will require a flat tool or strong fingernails to pry it apart (carefully) at the 6 affixing points. Cleaning the sponge is easy - run it under water and repeatedly squeeze it until the water comes out clear. The unit comes with a venturi valve, which provides aeration for the water. The principle is simple: as the water rushes past the hole for the venturi tube, it creates a suction force, drawing air past the valve along the tube and into the water. You can adjust how much air is pulled in (and how noisy it is) by changing the size of the aperture (hole) on the valve. This means that you won't need to have an air pump, tubing and air-stone in the tank if you are using this feature - a nice bonus! The top chamber is for the pump and impeller (a rotating prop powered by electromagnetism). It is easy to open so that you can regularly clean out any gunk built up inside. The unit is held in place with a detachable mount that has 4 suction cups on it.Overall, this is a good device as long as you already have a filter. You could add media like bagged activated carbon stones or sheets, or bagged maifan stone to remove chemicals, making it fully functional. If you don't let direct sunlight hit the aquarium, algae won't build up. This filter is also useful if there are unwanted parasites and other tiny water critters as the UV will destroy most of them.
