Starting this review now since it took me this long to finally install this gadget. First off, I will say the installation is easy. Taking out the 3 screws was super easy but removing the lower steering wheel cover was a bit more difficult. It does not just let go once the screws are removed and you will need to work it a bit to finally get it to let go. I hate the way manufacturers build stuff like this because the plastic tabs can break and if they do, it's duct tape for you later. But that's a side note.. The manufacturer of this Protect X did a good job of making it easy to connect. Simply disconnect 2 connectors and connect into their wiring harness then connect the Protect X unit. I found a place to stick it as the video didn't really show anything but his hand going back under the steering column area and it seems to be ok and doesn't block the adjustment of the steering wheel. There is a metal shelf just beyond the plastic dashboard under the steering wheel. I attached mine on that metal shelf. Now, here is where I stop and will continue to evaluate as time goes on. I will say that I am not a fan of that honk if I don't lock the doors. I wish I could turn that off since the Toyota app already takes care of that by texting me. And I am not sure about the other features, time will tell. But the window rolling up and down from the remote seems like another feature I would like to disable honestly.

I can shake the truck 1 degree by jumping up and down on the running boards or the bumper, but I haven't heard any alarms go off. The windows do roll down sequentially in small bits by pressing the unlock button when and will roll up with a long press on the unlock button. Installation was pretty easy and didn't take much time. The headlights do not stay on for 30ish seconds after closing the door and walking away like it did before, now it short-honks loudly and turns the lights off. Also, I found if I do not lock the door after closing it, at three minutes, it will short-honk loudly to remind anyone within earshot that the door(s) are unlocked. If the protect-x does anything else cool I'll update my review. Thanks!Update: I think the alarm has a delay before activating. I was installing a roof rack the other day with the doors closed, in my garage. Again, I found that if the vehicle is unlocked with the doors closed, it will honk once after 3 minutes. I locked the vehicle and started the process of removing the old cargo rails and installing the new roof rack. I am not sure if my body weight, standing on the running boards, was enough to cause a 1° tilt, but three times during the install the alarm when off, repeatedly honking in short rhythmic bursts. I tried mashing the buttons on the remote key fob and activating the panic button (which turns out is a different rhythmic pattern). Unlocking and/or opening the door stopped the honking, but I am not sure if there is a better way. So I think the alarm works, it just takes a minute or so of 1° tilt.

I haven't actually had this alarm go off since installing it, but the process was easy and the piece of mind makes it worth it. My truck already has a solid security system on it, but this takes it to another level. I will try to conduct some experiments to see how robust it is an report back. But for install, it seems like a solid product.
