I've had two total shoulder replacement surgeries and am scheduled for two knee replacements in the next 12 months, so I know about physical therapy.I suffer from an autoimmune disease which ravages my joints. I'm currently dealing with significant pain in my right hand and wrist and I know that if I go get it x-rayed, they are going to see breakdown in one or more of the joints in my hand.As much as I struggle with the intensity of the pain, I have learned that using the joint is better than avoiding it.I ordered this Flex Therapy Bar to see if using it will trigger the pain because then I know that this tool will target the joint(s) that I need to "lubricate" through movement. I also need to build muscle around the affected joints to help support them as they suffer arthritic changes. This Flex bar, which is a product I had never seen before, is providing some therapy for me. It's just the 10 pound version, and that's all I can handle at this time. I am happy with how easy it is to manipulate.Although there are only a few "illustrated" uses for this size, I can use it for the same movements that are displayed on the insert for the stronger/heavier levels and still get benefit from using it.For me, and I can't say my situation applies to anyone else, I believe this is helping me. I am satisfied with this unique tool.I do a lot of my exercises while in a pool so that I can be in a standing position (which isn't possible for me when I'm not in water.) And, I like that this product seems waterproof.

This is perfect for some of the exercises I do to deal with tendonitis in my wrist, arms, and elbows. A few years ago I developed tennis elbow followed by golfers elbow, plus a trapped ulnar nerve as a bonus. I did a lot of physical therapy and learned plenty of exercises to help keep these issues under control. A resistance bar like this is perfect for several of them, especially since this is a lighter weight so I can use it for some of the exercises that need to be less intense so I don't end up re-injuring myself. It has a really nice feel when I'm holding it, it doesn't slip easily and has just the right amount of squishy give. They're a great size, not too short to do the exercises but small enough to be easily stored out of the way. It seems to be very good quality, designed and made well. It comes with a page of exercises to do with these bars, separated by the different tension weights. That's just a starting point, you can find many more exercises to do if you look online. Because I liked this one so much I've ordered a 20 lb bar as well so I can add to my exercises.I've always hated the tension bands they give me in PT, they're not steady and can be a little annoying for me to use, plus whatever they're made of seems to kind of stick to everything. It drives me nuts. I'm so happy I've found an alternative that is easier to use, easier to store, and I feel does a better job.

See the pictures of how this flex therapy bar comes packaged.See the picture of the included exercise guide. This flex bar feels like a thick piece of rubber, so it is very easy to grip and hold on to while performing the various exercises in the included exercise guide. It measures at 12" long with a diameter of a paper towel or toilet paper cardboard tube, so it is easy to use while standing or sitting. The size of it makes it convenient to take along with you to use on the go.I was hoping that this flex bar would work as advertised and I must say following a few of the twisting exercises that are in the included guide and only performing the exercises for roughly five minutes I started to fell some relief from the mild discomfort in my right elbow. I'll continue using this daily for a couple of weeks and continue this review. In conclusion, I've been using this off and on throughout the day and my favorite way to use it (which is one of the listed exercises) is to hold the flex bar vertical with my hand of my non hurting arm and then I grab the flex bar near the top with my other hand but I rotate that hand inward so my thumb and pointer finger is facing downward and then I twist the flex bar with that hand and I instantly feel relief in my forearm and elbow of that hand. Sometimes, I'll reverse the top hand where up thumb and pointer finger are upward and twist the flex bar that way as it's a more natural position, and I still get relief. I'm including a close-up picture of that exercise to clarify what I'm describing.

Although this device comes with some sample instructions for performing some exercises, I did some research on my own for exercises specific to helping tennis elbow. This particular exercises comes in a 20 pound and 30 pound version, and I wish some guidance had been provided on which version to order. One video I found said to start with a lower weight like 10 pounds, and then move up to a higher weight when the exercises become too easy. This concept is so subjective and vague it isn't much help to me, but I've found the 20 pound version just fine. The exercises don't seem too hard or too easy, so I'm taking that as a good sign. The reason I'm not giving this a 5-star rating is because progress is slow and I'm unable to determine if the exercises with this device are going to be effective. One instructional video said it can take eight weeks of performing three sets of 15 exercises before improvement is noticeable. I'll update this review after I've been using this device longer and notice improvement.
