About this item

This Graduated Filter is specifically made for Cokin P-series. It features a soft edge gradual, with +2 stop on the darkest side, gradually decrease near the center of the filter allowing emphasis of foregrounds or backgrounds. Color of lens gradually fades out, so the boundary between the colored and transparent sections of lens will not become apparent even with the lens aperture stopped down. Each Filter comes with a storage case.

This filter just doesn't reduce the amount of light I need it to. Maybe just another half step to a step and it would be just right. However, on overcast days, it works ok. Sunny days? Forget it. I would have given it three stars if I could at least use it without having to look at the front of the lens to see where it was. It's so light in the view finder that it's nearly impossible to see where you have it lined up unless you look at the front of the lens. However, despite all of this. It did help me realize that yes, I do need and want a better one of these grad filters. I might go for a square filter as I can adjust the height of the fade. For obvious reasons, you cannot adjust the height of the fade on the circular ND Grads. The only good thing about the circular grads is that they transport easily in filter cases and are rather compact. If you really want one but don't want to spend a lot of money, tuff, wait, save, and go buy a good one. If you don't know if you want one or not, buy this one. Just don't have unrealistic expectations about how much it will "darken" your blown out sky.

Like the variable ND filters this is nice to have when you have high contrast elements in your shot. It is not as convenient as a square filter which can be adjusted to deal with the highlight areas. If you have carried square filters you know how inconvenient they are unless you are shooting regularly with them.

I am very satisfied with the results I got with the ND grad from Fotodiox. It effectively darkened the sky while keeping the lower portion of my landscape bright. It did what it was meant to do. The filter is quite light in weight, not the solid feel of other brands. But at such a small cost, I'm quite happy with this product.

I bought this ND graduated filter in the hopes to be able to film more outdoor HD video of vivid cityscapes and landscapes with moderate to brightly lit skies. Typically it is very hard to properly expose trees, buildings, and people outdoors without over exposing or blowing out the sky details like billowy clouds and sun rays. With this filter one should be able to achieve good exposure of both but it really has proven very ineffective. I wouldn't recommend this product to serious photographers or videographers.
