I prepped my Eduardono fibreglass hull meticulously, cleaned with isopropyl, scuffed it all and cleaned again, used the adhesion promoter included in the package, used clean latex gloves, and this installed perfectly. But, 24 hours later both sides popped loose in the bend of the keel. When I contacted Gater Guard 3M they told me to use 3M 5200 to hold it down. I’m not convinced and it it doesn’t work I’ll have an aweful mess to clean up. This product is expensive and not good. I have heard better things about Megaware, but it might be the same product under a different name. I will likely go back to adding a fibreglass wear strip to my keels rather than trying to glue this plastic on. Fibreglass wear strips are cheaper and more reliable. This stuff is just disappointing and a waste of $250!

Without question this has to be the greatest protection you will ever need for your keel. At 73 years young, alone I was able to install an 8’ KeelShield in about 2 hours, that with adding 3M sealant/adhesive around the entire KeelShield. An inexpensive insurance!

This works wonders I installed this on a 14ft Jenson boat which I had fabricated to be stick steering because of my back injury I have to sit on the front of the boat and swing my legs over into the boat and do the exact same thing to get out this Keelguard really helped tremendously because without it I was wearing a hole in the bottom of my boat which would make for more problems instead of using alcohol to clean the keel I used brake cleaner and it got it VERY CLEAN and the glue stuck perfectly so just follow the instructions or look up a YOUTUBE vide on the subject and use whatever is safe for your boat I used the brake cleaner because my boat doesn't have a gel coating just fiberglass so before I would use the cleaner I would probably test it on an non visible area before installation to see if it damages your paint

Install was a breeze on our Yamaha. Sanded, prepped and it has stuck solid for years. We beach about every trip in rocky Utah reservoirs due to the cold water, kids and other passengers, preferring not to anchor out. Writing this review after ~5 years of use because we finally hit some really bad rocks and this did its job. Had we not had this, 100% sure we have a hole in our boat. We were able to patch/seal the damaged section with marine 5200 and still kicking. We’ll see how much more use we can get, but will definitely purchase again when the time comes. Life saver.

Very good product but a little hard to apply. You need 2 people to do this ,but when done correctly its there for good.

Good product, looks like it will last the lifetime of the boat when it is done correctly. I installed this on my 2013 Nitro Z7 and I would have order 1 extra foot longer if I was able to do it all over again. Does the job though.

I just bought a 18' Nitro Z7. The boat didn't come with a keel protector and I could notice the wear on the keel. I read a ton of reviews and watched a youtube about this product and decided to give it a try and put it on myself. I purchased the 6 foot bc I felt the 7 foot would be overkill. If you have a 18 foot boat, 6 foot is all that you need. I opened the pack, read the instructions and put it on myself in my garage. I live in Louisiana where it's 100 degrees outside right now and let the shield sit in the sun for 15 minutes to be easier to work with. It literally took my 15 minutes to put this on by myself and it works perfect. The instructions tell you to draw an outline of the shield and/or mask off the area you are working with. I didn't go through all of that bc I'm impatient and it really was a waste of time IMO. If you're a perfectionist, go for it. Just takes more time. As far as the application, I just marked the middle (7th) rise with a white crayon so I could use it as a guide going down the keel for a centerline. I layed flat on my back under the boat with the keel of the boat centered above me where I was applying. I placed the shield down the center of my body, placed it where I wanted it to start at the top and worked it all the way down like the instructions said. Very easy. I'm just your average Joe who has never done this before and it couldn't have been easier. I'm happy with it so far, let's hope it stays on!

The Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Better to read the whole instructions before starting to put it on though. I put the middle 1/3 of it on before remembering to use the activator. It still stayed stuck but did not stick as well as the portions that had the activator on it. That was my fault though and not KeelShield's fault. It went on smooth and stayed stuck which is all I can ask. It has an easy method of finding the direct center of the Keelshield to make sure you have it on evenly. I would not recomend going over any irregularities in the hull such as a spray rail that goes all the way to the keel. We started our Keelshield a bit lower than recomended to avoid a potential weak point in the bond.Buy some isopropyl alcohol before you start. I was going to wipe everything down with acetone but in the instructions they recomend against acetone but propose isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol left the surface to adhere very well. Make sure if you are removing a prior keel protector to get all of the glue off prior to your install.
