Didn't have to drop the transmission. I've read reviews of other gap seals being too hard. This is soft enough to slip inside the transmission shift lever hold without dropping transmission. Fit like a glove on my NV3550. It does have a proper orientation. Cone side down. Facing the breather port. If none exists like on my NV3550 just slip it on and done. I put a zip tie on the rubber boot to jeep the boot and foam in place. Great part happy I took a chance with this item.
