Trimmed four rings from the spring. Tied a piece of dental floss to the spring to avoid loosing it into the column.Used a curved pic to remove the remnant pieces of the old spring, with a vacuum cleaner at the opening to catch the pieces so that they don’t fall into the column.Easy project and the shifter handle doesn’t slop around anymore.

You will need to cut down the spring as others have mentioned but I highly suggest removing the pin to the shifter instead of trying to cram the spring in. So much easier and no flying springs, pingggg!

The spring on the column shifter busted on my silverado. Makes for a crappy gear shifting experience. Replacing this erased the misery, and was worth the effort.Suffice it to say it was not fun to install this. The spring had to be shortened as described elsewhere in these reviews. I tried for too long to sneak it into where it needs to lives with a needle nose pliers. I finally succeeded after I removed the shifter mounting bracket and drove out the pivot pin for the shifter arm mount. With the shifter arm mount out of the way, it was a piece of cake to get the spring in.It took 20 minutes to put it all back together and that fixed it right.

Item arrived fast, I knew it had to be modified to fit in my 2001 GMC Yukon. Trimmed it to 3/4 of an inch, the trimming part wasnt difficult, getting the spring to sit in place was a real PITA.Be patient when doing this, I used 2 flathead screw drivers to push and curve the spring into place.Not a fun job but doable, cheaper alternative than to replace the whole shifter assembly.
