About this item

  • Subaru Genuine Part Number: SOA427V1700 x1
  • This OEM Subaru 75w90 GL5 fluid will work in any Subaru that requires 75w90 fluid in their transmissions and differentials.
  • The extra S 5 gallon pail is no longer available and is now superseded by these quarts.

This is the stock fluid used in Subaru STI models. Until now, the Subaru Extra-S gear & Transmission Fluid was only available in a 5 Gallon Drum. It's superior design helps to lessen the common 3-4 shift grind in higher mileage 5 speed WRX transmissions. This fluid will work in any Subaru that requires 75w90 fluid in transmissions and differentials. Customers have reported that shifting is smoother and less prone to grinding with Subaru Extra-S fluid. It's what Subaru uses and recommends.

Probably well overdue, I drained and refilled the rear differential in my Subaru. Filling it up was the easy part and this gear oil was exactly what I needed.Removing the top bolt was nearly impossible because whoever did this job last way overtightened it.

Do not buy very disappointed ordered this oil thinking it was five quarts as pictures and ad states. Package came with one quart for 60 bucks for a quart which is a complete rip off buy from limitlessmoroworks.ca

I replaced the Motul/Redline cocktail I had in my 2005 STi with this stuff. It works well, shifts ok, but takes a bit of time to warm up and shift better. It feels "thinner" than the Motul/Redline cocktail when cold, and when hot which doesn't give a lot of confidence in hard shifting. This will work if you're a daily driver kinda guy, or your transmission is rather new and fresh but if you have a used, abused, or want a better performing transmission oil I would suggest mixing Redline shockproof light with Motul 75w/90 or whatever the kids are suggesting on the forums these days.

This is the good stuff. If you own a Subaru, and you aren't using extra S, than you are probably extra S yourself. and I don't mean Smart.Buy the oil, you are not going to outsmart the engineers at FHI or Subaru with your synchromesh because you have been doing 7,000 rpms launches in your 2002 WRX thinking you are going to impress other 16 year olds on YouTube. You are going to need a new scooby is what you are going to need.

Very happy that I chose this tranny oil. My 2002 WRX wagon still shifts like butter. No grinding issues at all. I chose this route instead of a cocktail as this is easier to procure.I dont think this is a con but I do have to mention that I only used 3 bottles to fill my car as it requires 3.8 quarts. Not sure if the bottles are just a little larger than expected, I had some leftover oil in the tranny, or a little of both. In the end I only used 3 bottles while I ordered 4. Guess I will use the extra bottle for the next oil change.

Replaced the 5MT and rear differential oil in an 04 Legacy 35th L with this stuff. At 140K, neither had been replaced. Oopsie. There is a smoother shift with this stuff (compared to 9 YO oil .. duh). The old oils were quite a bit thicker although there wasn't much in the way of metal shavings on the magnetic plugs of either. Bottom bolt on the differential required my feet on an 18" breaker bar to start but switcheroo was uneventful. Next time I will use tin foil to protect the parts of the exhaust system that the 5MT oil spills on when emptying, I get a bit of cooked differential oil smell (not oil level, not leaks, just the smoking from that oil that spilled over the exhaust pipe that I tried to wipe with a shop towel but is hard to remove all that way). A bit of tin foil would be a simple way to prevent this from happening next time.Shipping from Fred was fast and the packaging was excellent.
