The Short shaft provides more control; putting your hand closer to the pin and additionally you won't be so apt to bend or break the finishing roll pin punch.

Made in AmericaI wish I knew these existed sooner. The short shanks make them superior for those really jammed up roll pins. Might not be going deep with them but if you really need to bust one loose they're not going to bend or break so they're phenomenal starters.Even the smallest sizes have properly formed nipples and straight and even shanks. Too often, unless you're buying supremely overpriced punches, 3/16" and smaller start having no shoulder on the nipple (causes punch to wedge into the roll pin) or the shanks have a bulge due to deflection because they're turned not ground.I work in the paper industry and some of those manufacturers back in the 50, 60, and 70s had a little too much love for roll pins. Always rusting in place, breaking, many are over 3" long. These are so good for getting the pins started.I really have no complaints. I can't find a single thing I don't like. I think maybe there was one uncommon size not in the set (uncommon for modern machinery at least). Also whatever they're made of is TOUGH. I normally use a steel ballpeen hammer to hit punches and chisels but I noticed these aren't mushrooming or marring. They *might* be through hardened or they might be more of a "tough" steel like hammers are made out of (or something like S5 shock steel). So I've swapped to using brass/bronze mallets instead.I'll have to update with a photo when I remember.

Great quality, really like the short tips. Greatly reduce the chance of bending them.

I like these shorter roll pin punches. They are great to get the roll pins moving.I've bent a couple of the longer ones, These are stubby and don't bend as easy.

These are exactly what is needed for starting to remove tight/stubborn roll pins, the longer punches are fine for total removal...but these make starting them a dream.I have had the longer set of these for years, learned the hard way ...that some roll pins can be very tight....and the longer punches can fail on those. These shorty's dont have that long shaft problem , nothing to flex or ouright bend...start the stubborn pin with these....finish with the longer punch.P.S. Saw where Grace USA had a lifetime warranty, a few of my longer punches had failed starting pins over the years...they sent me replacement punches immediately...no questions asked...NICE !!! Now all 7 shorty's and all 7 longer punches are ready to go.

I already have the complete set of long Grace USA roll pin punches and holders, and I bought these short punches to cure an issue I had. I was using the long style 1/16 an 5/32 punches to drive out pins on my modern sporting rifle and I bent them because they are long and razor thin and the pins are tight. These short ones help you knock the pin loose, and then you finish with the longer punch if necessary. All that being said, let's get back to the bent punches. Their site says they have a no questions asked warranty on all of their products, so I sent an email to their customer service inbox to see if I could get replacements for my bent punches. The owner of the company quickly emailed me back and got my address, and sent me 2 new punches no questions asked. They arrived in 2 days. That's a pretty awesome effort to keep customers happy, and it's as critical to my decision to buy this set of short punches as was my experience with the quality of the ones I already owned. I couldn't be happier with the product or the company.

bought these after i broke a standard length punch from another set, while assembling an AR. these have held up much better for assembly. while these are great for assembly, the small punch is a little too short for bolt catch pin disassembly and you will need to bang out the pin half-way using the small punch from this set, then use pliers to pull it out the rest of the way
