I like greenlee for a lot of things but this was by far the worst step bit I've ever used. I got one 7/8" hole and couldn't get a second, it started chipping apart. Paid $116 at the parts house to drill one hole.

I'm stunned this has any bad reviews. I bought mine in 2018 and just came back to get an additional size, so thought I'd add my experience. I've used this for five years in every type of steel (including hundreds of holes in 16 gauge stainless steel drums), and I've rarely remembered to use cutting fluid or wax. It still cuts like it was new, and it blows away my other dozen step bits (including a couple of the non-cobalt ones from Greenlee).

I drill metal studs all day so I bought this thinking it would be better but broke on first use. Tip chipped off while drilling aluminum. Paid four times more. Ill stick with the $13.00 bits. Misplaced package otherwise I would return it.

The third step chipped on the third hole I drilled in 18 gauge stainless steel. I had plenty of cutting fluid, low speed, and I allowed the bit to cool between each hole I drilled.

Really nice very sharp. Old school trick put Dawn dishwashing liquid on any metal that you're getting ready to drill in eliminates all heat and friction only need a drop. Kinda expensive, don't get me wrong worth it considering last one lasted 15 years
