Available in both traditional flat head and hex head styles, the hex head features Grip-Rite exclusive Dual Drive Power, which brings flexibility to the job site with a unique combined Hex Washer/Star Drive recess head, offering the user a choice of using the included hex driver or a star drive bit to fasten the screw. Both styles include an ID code stamped right into the head for easy spec reference and a load value chart conveniently located on every package. As a replacement for lag screws, Grip-Rite Structural Screws feature a type 17 point that translates to both efficiency and time savings by eliminating the need to pre-drill pilot holes.

These things saved the day when building a deck fence. They are so much faster to use than normal lags, and don't need predrilling. I predrilled the first few holes because I was skeptical, but somehow even with the big ol 5/16" screw there isn't any splitting, even near ends. I'll be grabbing some more of these
