The top side is the male (smaller) end, so if you fill up the bottom, the top will catch on the contents when you put them together. To use, you have to put the brushes into the top bristles first, then put the bottom on. Pretty useless.

I bought these to store my large deep-sea fishing lures in to protect people from the hooks while storing. Worked perfect

The items were bigger than what I was expecting and I was unable to use them for what I originally wanted them for but I have used 2 for other things and I'm sure eventually I will be abke to use all 8 for some project or something.

The concept is good, but these are cheaply made and the design is flawed. I bought these to store my artist brushes, which vary in length. Once the brushes are put into the container and you go to screw the top down (it spirals down), the brush hairs get caught between the base and the top. It takes some jiggling and rolling to get it right. As well, the bottoms of these containers are not entirely flat, thus they wobble. They will keep my brushes dust free, at least for the time being.

These are wonderful containers to keep paint brushes safe from our two cats (between art projects). Great purchase!
