This ladder works very well and seems to be very stable up near the top as long as the base is on secure footing. But you have to be very sensible in collapsing it. If you have your fingers in between the rungs they will get smashed. The way it operates is when you let down the first length it will leave a space of about 2 inches from the next rung. When you collapse the next rung, the first rung will drop very quickly and if your fingers are in there, SMASH! And it will proceed like that until the entire ladder is collapsed. I actually laid it on the side to take it down for the most part. More difficult but safer. I bought the 14.5 foot ladder and its' VERY heavy. Just be careful. Maybe put a block or something in that 2 inch space as you collapse the rungs. You'll see exactly what I mean if you buy it.
