GY20050 Greasing Mower Spindles
- Greasing your mower spindle depends on the usage. The more you use it, the more grease it needs. If you are an average user, you need to grease your mower spindles at least once a month.
- This will lubricate the interior moving parts in the mower. Keeping the internal parts well lubricated extends the life of the mower.
- The amount of grease needed for your mower spindles also depends on how you use it. For personal mowing, it can be sufficient to grease them two times in a mowing season.
- If you are a commercial mower, you should grease the mower spindle daily. This is because you spend many hours using it and it might get destroyed easily if it doesn’t get enough lubrication.
- Keep in mind that mower spindles have large cavities that need enough lubrication. It would be best to grease the spindles until grease can be seen coming out of the weep hole at their base.
- There are grease fittings on each spindle. They are called zerk fittings. You can grease them easily without removing other parts.
- Remember to change the oil when the lawn-mowing season is over. Changing oil is also crucial as it makes the mower last longer.
- Failing to change the oil leads to oil deposits settling on the engine. You might also want to add fresh gasoline and maintain the blade as part of the maintenance process.

The parts fit as designed and there was a grease nipple to lubricate the bearings that the original didn't have. The only down side was that there was no indication if the bearings were pre-greased or not. They were not so I greased them before installation, all good.

I purchased these spindles to replace the originals on my John Deere L110 mower. The original spindles could not be lubricated, and they were both shot (one of them was actually wobbling, the other was just noisy). The new spindles fit perfectly, and I am happy they have provision for greasing. I used blue Loctite on the mounting bolts, but the pulley bolt has a nylon insert and did not need any Loctite. I put perhaps four shots of grease from my grease gun into each spindle, but I saw none coming out of the top or bottom, so I'll add more after a brief run. Packing was good, and all required bolts and nuts were included. I did save my original fasteners, just in case. Time will tell how reliable these are, but they appear to be well made, and the price was right.

The spindle appears to be well made. I ordered the wrong one but decided to keep it. It appears to be well made and functional. I have not installed it yet. The bearing is the key to longevity and it was made in China. Having made bearings for 27 years and bought millions of Chinese bearings it is always a crap shoot on their quality.
