Introduction

Magnetic strength and reach where it is meant to be is lower than some other areas around the unit, and its ability seems lower than advertised.The lever is difficult and sudden to lock and unlock, could cause wrist damage or jump around or fall off a surface.The internal lever and tumbler mechanism gets jammed and grinds. Its welded together as a unit so it does not seem serviceable.The parts that hold it together, like screws and plates, are magnetizable, making it difficult to work around with normal tools, but also a handy tool holder, if not a little strong to where placing and removing any items marks and chips the surface.

Had a set of these when I first started managing the company I am at, worked great for about 1.5 years. Over time they had taken a beating so I decided to purchase a new set. The new ones that arrived looked nice, but were total pieces of garbage. On one of these the handle would rotate to activate the magnet, then we couldn't get it to disengage. We had to push it off the plate to get it to detach.I use a pair of these to lift 400lb pieces of steel, if the plate is not 100% level and completely balanced when lifting they slide or just pop off. I have had these just stop working when team members are moving pieces with our crane. These 880lb magnets have only been 100% on moving pieces less than 150lbs. I have these on my tool shelf as some "last resort" magnets, spend more and get yourself something better.

Great product! The VEVOR magnetic lifter works perfectly for me and what I use it for. I know it’s designed to lift and move large plates of steel, but I use it to separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals from each other. The fact that it is strong makes it easy to use for this purpose , and being able to turn the magnet off means no scraping nails, tacks, and shavings off the magnet. I’ve also used it to pick up spilled nails, and it worked equally as well. I would certainly purchase it again, and may be getting a second one next spring.-Kevin

I wanted to extract steel - mostly nails and screws from a burn pile. A conventional screw pickup sweep was not practical so I tried this. The magnet is heavy but reasonably well sealed and dragging it through the debris with my backhoe bucked worked OK but in the end I think by hand with a rope would have been just as easy as long as you have a place to hang the magnet while you release it. It takes two hands to release the magnet. Most of the nails dropped right off and the stragglers pulled off easily. I pulled out 30-40 lbs of nails in 15 minutes filling a 5 gallon bucket. A few more sessions to go though.

This is a great magnet. I bought it for my husband to pick up metal plate . It is very strong however, for the large sheet he was trying to use it for, it lost contact when plate bowed. So no problem, we are ordering another one! Then perfect for the job! Less work on the men and safer. Sherri

I originally ordered two of these for lifting 600lb+ steel sheets onto my plasma table. They seem to be very good quality. I ordered two more just for a safety factor for stability when lifting the thickest material. The first two units were reversed, ie on position and off position were reversed and would not function. I quickly realized I just needed to flip magnet to reverse polarity. Just placed unit on steel and with vice grip pliers and handle removed, I turned magnet 180 degrees. Work perfect now. Evidently some are assembled backwards at factory but it's an easy fix. Great product, very good price. Must have for every fabrication shop

I used this unit to lift and drag/carry 40' long I beams and it worked fairly well. The handle configuration limited how I could attach to the steel as the flanges conflicted with the travel path of the handle. The unit is very heavy! I don't believe that I got the holding power as advertised but I was lifting galvanized material and that could reduce the power and the 1/4" thickness of the steel was not the best for magnetic hold so overall I give it 4- not 5 stars.
