This press is solidly built and a real pleasure to use. Once you get a rhythm going you can really get a batch done quickly. One trick is to use plastic wrap (not wax paper) when pressing the tortilla. Use one sheet on the bottom and another on the top. This makes it easy to remove the tortilla from the press to the pan.I'm planning on making some Naan and think the press will do a great job with that as well....

i really like my tortilla press. i make low-carb tortillas and have to use parchment because the (low-carb) dough is very sticky. this is my first press and i didn't realize how small it was. if i purchase a larger one, it will be from this company because it works so well. The one thing missing from this was instructions on how to effectively use it. It only had assembly instructions.

OK, look. I read all the bad reviews on this and they were older. Seen a few newer good ones so I took it all with a grain of salt and bought this because the one I really wanted was like twice as much and this seemed like a decent middle of the road option.Yeah, I let myself be fooled this time. This is nothing that the listing says it is.1.) This is not cast iron. Cast iron is heavier than this for the size. Also, cast iron DOES NOT FLEX. Cast iron wont even bend if it isnt forge-hot, it will only break if you put way too much force. This flexes when you use it, which greatly reduces the effectiveness of the force you exert, and proves that this is either aluminum or cheap steel. My bet is cheap steel because aluminum will tend to hold a bend not go back. Either way it's worthless for this application even if it weren't for my second complaint:2.) It's painted. NOT enameled like some cast iron cookware sometimes is for aesthetics and ease of care. It's just black paint so in the photo it looks like cast iron. Which is false anyways because even pre seasoned cast iron isn't deep black its darkish gray until the owner cooks on it a bunch. And you don't even cook on these so it would never turn black!Anyways the issue is the paint comes off into the tortilla dough. At the pressure point on the handle and lid, you'll see in the picture. That's obviously not food safe because who knows what paint that is, and regardless no paint is edible.3.) It says mexico on top but that's just a lie to make it seem more 'authentic' I guess. The sticker says China.Don't be fooled by this listing, its a waste of your time and your money. I wanted the Victoria press that was like $50 at the time I ordered this piece of junk. At the moment the two are roughly the same price so head on over that way. I'd product link you if I knew how but I don't.

Have now used this several times to make tortillas for fish tacos; was getting sick of the ones from the store which always had a very chemical taste to them. Love the fresh ones and this thing does the trick. It's going to take you a few times to master it but the effort is worth it. Fresh made tortillas are light and have a great corn flavor.Construction on this tortilla press is good but not great. The cast iron has a sturdy feel but the hinge is floppy. Also the press has no kind of thickness limiter so it's easy to overpress the tortillas if you're inexperienced. Also, it's a little hard to find a storage space because this doesn't collapse down flat, the handle sticks up.Also don't follow the instructions and use cellophane for pressing; I found parchment paper with light spray of canola worked much better. I'm sure the traditionalists will take umbrage with that but it works and doesn't seem to effect the taste of the end product at all.In all, I'm very happy with this given the price. When it's time for me to get a new press, I will probably buy a more expensive one but this is a great starter tool, particularly if you're not sure whether fresh tortillas will be a regular item on your menu at home.

I have bought a few of these tortilla presses I my life, but having a cast iron one is the best way to go. I have owned an aluminum press and it was just not up to the challenge of getting the tortillas right. When it arrived. I bought it in December so it was cold and I let it come to room temperature before I attempted to use it when I did finally use it I realized there is definitely a learning curve. You have to place you ball of dough off center of the press for the ball to be pressed perfectly round. And if you press the lever too hard your tortilla will be thick on one side and wafer thin on the other. Overall I was happy with the product I received and it performs as desired.
