Read the item description carefully. Bar isbored with round holes. Never saw a boring bar with round holes before but here it is. Not useful to me at all but I didn't read the description carefully enough. Buyer beware.

I have only used this once so far, but it worked great.

Let’s face it, this is an antiquated tool design. You can’t really buy a “good one”, it would have to be made. Making a “good one” would cost more time than the $30 I had to get this one delivered in a day. I needed it to bore with a custom form tool that did need to be made and was easier done from hss than grinding in a top notch blank. Worked great and the broach was clean and finish acceptable.Would recommend for the same purpose. Beside, I doubt anyone buying one of these is running any long term production with it.

Allows for a decent amount of stick out with good rigidity out to the 4 inches I've used it, and lets me grind my own HSS cutting edge. Having the option of 90 degree or 45 degree tool mounting is great too. Don't know that I'd want to use it fully extended from the toolholder but it's nice to have the length available if it doesn't interfere with your tailstock.

Bar is straight and of uniform diameter. It is not hardened, but that is not an issue. The tool bit apertures are clean and accurately broached. The set screws leave a little to be desired, but anyone who knows how to use this tool can easily drill and tap for more robust setscrews. All in all a useful tool.

The broaches are rough and filing or forcing tool blanks through to clear out the square broaching is required. The smallest bars require round tool blanks.

I bought the 5 piece set 1/4" – 3/4" (1001-0008). My boring bars have good square holes for holding the cutting tool bits. This is interesting as other reviews just a few months ago and the product pictures show an oversized hole with broached corners. The product documentation (HHIP.com) indicates that the 1/4" & 3/8” bars uses a round tool bit and this is noted in a recent review; but mine have a square holes. Also the 1/4" boring bar has a very thin wall next to the square hole. I have not used them yet, but they are straight and should work fine.

Decent quality, should work out fine. The square holes are pretty tight, I would prefer a bit looser, but tools do fit eventually so not an insurmountable problem. There are two set screws on each tool end on these, while my old boring bar has only one per hole. However there are a few different sizes of set screw on the different bars, not sure why they all have to be different screws. Need a number of different allen keys across the set. Seems like a good value for a full set. I really just needed the two larger sizes but it wasn't much more money for this full set.
