I love to fish and depend on my humminbird for many functions. I lost gps function, it said gps was not connected. All the connections were intact with electrical testing so the puck was bad. I was able to get this new puck, easy to install and connect and my gps better than ever. It saved my fishing season.

it brought my Humminbird 798ci si back to life. the units internal GPS was starting to intermittently stop working.once i plugged this external GPS puck in it acquired satellite signal super fast and i'm sure its way more accurate, plus you can mount it closer to your transducer for more accurate waypoint positions.

Solved my problem. Never had an antenna die before. Kept reading about the plug on the back of the depth finder being fragile, also possible dead depth finder. Humminbird repair is a flat $300 plus. Not worth it. So glad it was only a $100 problem.

My Dad had to update his receiver due to the old one wearing out. This one is quicker than his older one and it still worked with his interlink system after being wired in differently. Mounting was easy and there was more than enough wire to be able to wire it where you need it. Check to make sure this one will work with the system and finders that you are currently using. Humminbird has been updating their plugs with the newer items so it's best to double check before you spend the money.

I purchased this item to use with my Humminbird 899ci HD SI Combo. I wanted to get the most accurate GPS position possible and align it with the transducer on the back of the boat. I installed this on a 2009 Bass Tracker 190TX. Installation is very easy using the supplied screws. You then run the cable to head unit and it should instantly recognize the external GPS. Keeping the cable out of sight on the run to the graph is the most difficult part of the installation and is really not that complicated.I now get accuracy to around 3ft or better and the GPS lock on is almost instantaneous. Most importantly, the GPS receiver is right on top of the transducer on the back of the boat so there is no error induced by the distance between the head unit and transducer. I will also be purchasing one of these for the 859ci HD on the front of my boat. The improved accuracy makes it very easy to pin point those deep water brush piles that you identify with the side scan imaging. I really recommend this to compliment your 800 series Humminbird unit.

I purchased the Helix 5 GPS combo unit pretty much exclusively for GPS navigation (I don't fish). While I liked the device, I was disappointed with the miserable satellite signal I was getting. It took a long time to get a fix, and even when I did it was weak and intermittent. I ended up getting this product. While it wasn't plug and play, Humminbird has instructions on their website to do some splicing that allows for both a data connection to the Helix 5, and a power connection to 12V DC.It was worth both the work and money, for sure. I installed this thing on the bow of my boat, and it's just been night and day. I get a signal within seconds of turning the unit on (even after it's been sitting for a while), and the signal is consistently strong - using 18-22 satellites at any given time. It's unfortunate that one should have to buy this to make up for the shortcomings of the GPS unit's internal antenna, but I will say that it is well worth it. I'm very happy I bit the bullet and purchased this antenna.
