About this item

  • Protect your eyes and equipment from the sun’s intense light and radiation with solar filters on telescopes. Solar filters block more than 99.99% of visible light plus UV and IR, making them safe for viewing the sun.
  • Attach and remove the filters easily and securely to the objective lens of your telescope with a clamp-on or slip-on design. Solar filters are compatible with most telescopes and have nylon thumb screw(s) and felt tabs to prevent any damage or scratches to your scope.
  • Enjoy the contrast and clarity of the sun’s image with solar filters on telescopes. Solar filters are made of high-quality materials, such as Helios Solar Glass or Hyperion Solar Film, which have a reflective coating on both sides to enhance the image quality.
  • Witness the beauty and power of the 2024 total solar eclipse with solar filters on telescopes. Solar filters allow you to safely observe and photograph the stunning phases of the eclipse.
  • Seymour Solar has been manufacturing and selling Solar Filters since 2007. Our filters have been used by amateur and professional photographers to capture amazing photographs of solar events worldwide.

If you want to witness the beauty and power of the sun, whether through photography or direct observation, you need a solar filter that can protect your eyes and your equipment from the sun’s intense light and radiation. That’s why we offer you our premium solar filter, which is specially designed for telescopes. Our solar filter is rated ND5, which means that it blocks 99.999% of the sunlight, making it safe for viewing the sun’s surface and features, such as sunspots and eclipses. Our solar filter is made of Hyperion Solar Film, which is a thin film sheet that can be used under magnification and is suitable for any telescope, refractor, binoculars, view finders, telescopes, cameras, or cell phone cameras. The film is mounted into an aluminum outer cell, which is durable and lightweight, and fits most telescopes. Our solar filter is easy to use and has a clamp-on design that allows you to attach it to the objective lens of your telescope securely. The filter is secured and centered to the telescope with nylon thumb screw(s) and felt tabs, which prevent any damage or scratches to your telescope. With our premium solar filter, you can experience the sun’s beauty and power without any risk or hassle.

Worked great for the eclipse...easily removed during totality and replaced again after.

I measured my telescope and this should have fit but it was slightly too small. I was able to hold it on with masking tape, though, and used it to time lapse video the recent eclipse. The lens is very flimsy so you’ll have to store it in a protective location. Pretty overpriced for what you get, but it does what it supposed to do.

Fits my Meade etx 90 like a glove! Can see the sunspots perfectly. Seems like a quality product. Can't wait for the eclipse!

I was hoping to use this filter, for the eclipse, on my large Nikon AF-S 600 f4 lens, which is super sharp and bright. But I could not get to the image quality no matter the technique. The comparison image was shot with a Nikon AF-S 200-500 f5.6 with a Hoya ProND1000000, Same camera for both shots Nikon D-750. Unfortunately the AF-S 600 has an in lens filter and I am afraid the heat will damage the lens if I use a 52 MM ND filter inside the lens. Hoya does not make a big enough version to fit on the outer lens element. Live and learn... The construction of the filter is adequate for the use but I would not recommend unless you are out of options.

Bought this last year along with a telescope and camera attachment for viewing the solar eclipse. Love it. Continuing to use it to photograph the edge of the sun.

Easy to install and remove/reinstall. I was able to leave it on my monocular to store in the case with it.

Worked very well. Able to view sunspots as well as the progress of the total eclipse. Easy to attach to the scope's shroud, then able to quickly remove the shroud/filter to view totality. It was awesome!
