It does not do the job as specified; specifically tracing cable for identification. It barely makes a sound and only for a very short distance about 5 feet. I do not recommend this to any other customer.

Found the wire I wanted to trace inside a wall right away. I know I will be able to use it when working on other projects.My unit did not include the 9V batteries. Yes the plastic seems cheap. But the nice case will protect it unless you are very sloppy.The instructions are poor, but I figured out how to use it without reading the instructions.

Easy to find broken or crossed wires. I like to tone generator feature as it helps you find the correct wire when you have a rat's nest of wires. Used twice and help me find a bad connector and I did NOT have to go into the attic and replace a good cable. Worth the money after the fist usage.-

If you are DIYer, and need to run and cap some network wires, this tool is for you. It’s cheap enough not to break bank but accurate enough to let you know if you messed up. I did hit a snaffu with one of the wires: the tool shower all green but connection only showed100mb. The issue came down to one of the RJ45 plugs needing to be redone.The tool also allows you to trace wires by connecting one end to a wire and waving the wand against the wall to see where it generates tone. Worked fairly well to trace wiring located behind regular Sheetrock.
