Out the box, well...all the components pictured were not present. This system is essentially two parts: the lamp board fan and the water tank/pump. The lamp board fan is supposed to "maintain air circulation and assist in pollination", while the water pump is supposed to oxygenate the water in the tank. The theory of the benefits of this system is mostly sound, the problem is mainly the quality control and laziness of the manufacturer. As stated, the package arrived incomplete and the user manual was a mess. you do not have to be a genius to put this together, but when parts are missing, it becomes difficult to understand what goes where and why.The absolute worst, though is the lack of support. While the manufacturer has a website located at https://insidegarden.net/, it does not work properly and there is nothing on it. Heaven help you if that user manual gets lost (if it is actually in the box), because there does not seem to be any support. All that with a $125 dollar price tag.

This is an excellent hobby kit for those who like to grow a small supply of herbs, leafy greens, or dwarf plants. This hydroponic garden will not work for regular-size tomatoes or mature plants taller than two feet. This is an improvement, though, over most other hydroponics systems. I am experimenting with root crops with this system, and although radishes, carrots, and turnips look funny growing on top of the sponges, it works, and I have had some promising initial results. Set-up is straightforward, and in 45 minutes or so, you can have all seventeen pods planted and the system running. The larger water capacity is also a nice feature. In similar hydroponic gardens, I have also had successful crops of basil, green peppers, chamomile tea, thyme, oregano, sage, dill, parsley, and chives. I have had more luck with leaf lettuce from these systems than from a much larger outdoor lettuce patch. This is also more convenient. The product description is accurate, and this system works as expected. The product description is accurate. It arrived in two days and in good order. This kit includes no seeds of any type, so these need to be supplied by the user. If you are new to hydroponics, I recommend using leaf lettuce for your initial greens. These can be harvested at almost any size, and even small leaves make tasty snacks. I snacked on my leafy greens all winter long from my hydroponic gardens. For herbs, my recommendations are chives, basil, parsley, thyme, and oregano. These can be clipped easily and frequently to keep them to a size the garden can support. All of these also taste good, regardless of the size of the leaves when clipped. The kit has a complete set of sponges and enough growth solution, divided into an A and B variety for several months of operation. The instructions say to add growth solution every two weeks and to keep the water level filled up in the interim with plain water. My tap water is fine, and I am using it for this garden. Adding water is simple, but the refill hole is less convenient than some of my other models. All the electronics work well; the pump comes on and turns off as it should. The pump is quiet and does not cause any noise issues. The lights are on an on-and-off cycle. This cycle could be a problem if you need to set up your garden in an area of the house where the bright light (and I mean bright) will bother you. In my case, I use a closet for a greenhouse, and the lights are a non-issue. To adjust the light timing, use the manual input interface on the front of the planter. Adjusting light timing is not as simple as it should be, but it works once you figure it out.Overall, it is an exciting hobby experiment with some tasty munchies included for your troubles. I would definitely get this system again.
