About this item

  • Securely and permanently add metal threads to 3D printed parts

Tapered threaded brass inserts for 3D Printing
Easy to set in an appropriately-sized hole in the part using a soldering iron. Numerous vanes and ridges around the insert allow plastic to flow between them, creating a tough bond with the printed part.
This is a much more versatile, durable, professional, and attractive solution than "captive nuts" and other solutions commonly employed when the need for metal threads in printed parts arises.
One primary advantage these provide is the ability to design and print assemblies in multiple component pieces that attach with metal fasteners. This means that you can create products larger than the print volume your printer supports, and that failed prints often result in less waste due to only one part of a larger assembly failing. This also typically results in more "polished", professional-looking designs.
Specifications:

  • Thread Pitch: M3-0.5

These seem to work nicely with M3 screws. I heat-set them using a Hakko FX888D iron and using Virtjoule's heat set installation tips. Very easy to install.

I got the short ones.Voron general sourcing guide (2022/Oct/13) specifies to use M3xL4xD5, and links to aliexpressVoron stealthburner sourcing guide (2022/Oct/13) links to this product, They measure M3xL3.8xD5.5These are slightly TOO BIG. And folks have complained they bulge the stealthburner parts when inserted.Check the general Voron Sourcing Guide (not the stealthburner one), for links to ones that fit properly.

I picked the the M3 size, and did 5mm wide by 8mm deep holes in PLA. I did end up ordering some of the Virtjoule soldering iron tips to insert these, but no required for these. I run the soldering iron around 700F, and they slowly go in very smoothly without any excess melting. They take a few minutes to cool off, and so far they have all been very snug without feeling like they will be loose. Really the only tips I can give are don't force them in, when warm enough they will insert with a little pressure. Also try to do your best to keep them level when inserting, our you'll find your screws need a slight angle to go in. I was very impressed how they just worked out of the bag.

Amazing product. Just put one on the end of your soldering iron (use an old tip!) and press it into a printed hole.I used a 2.85mm diameter with a depth of 4mm on my prints and have had perfect success. They single handed lay changed the way I design mechanical parts.
